I have been attempting to set this up, I have had 3 goes at this from scratch but have been unable to get the files to show up in recorded tv on any of my 3 machines (2 MCE 2005 and 1 Vista)
I have followed all the steps to the letter but so far no joy
I can see the WHS shared folder and its contents on the network but I am unable to see the files in the recorded tv of MCE.
Hi all
I can see the WHS shared folder and its contents on the network but I am unable to see the files in the recorded tv of MCE.
Check out this thread - Steve Lindsay knows a lot about this sort of integration and it doesn't look like he can get it to appear in Recorded TV - but he does provide a good workaround / alternative in his video

I have my recorded tv working in WHS. I don't save to it but run a script at night to move it over to the Recorded Tv folder on my WHS. When your setting up the permissions make sure they are set as per the thread. Also something i found is it took a couple of VMC reboots to get this to see the WHS folder. You might also need to make a registry adjustment to the "watched folder for recorded tv" as my registry did not have this entry by default as it says in the thread.
Also make sure you aren't remote desktoped(if there is such a word) into your whs when you reboot the vista machine, don't know why but this seems to sometimes interfere. If you persist it will work as i have done it twice now with the RTM and the release copy. Theres is also a good thread relating to this over at the green button. Just search for WHS recorded tv.
p.s It works on both my VMC and MCE2005 boxes.

Interesting - Steve Lindsay who I mentioned above is about to release the "Windows Home Server Vista Media Center Recorded TV Manager" application add-in to achieve this (with a few other features) - details here and there's a discussion on it in the We Got Served forums and update on his plans
Here are some of the planned features.
Simple install.
Move recordings to Windows Home Server drive on scheduled intervals.
The ability to configure file types moved (i.e. commercial skip files etc).
The ability for the application to automatically cleanup files which the corresponding recordings no longer exist for (i.e. commercial skip files).
The ability to move recordings from multiple locations.
The ability to configure the watched folders in media center (thus letting you add the Windows Home Server recorded TV share).
