Thumbs up Saved By WHS

We had a blackout last night. I had my PC authoring a DVD while I slept, SWMBO was still up and draining our meagre funds on eBay, the HTPC was running and WHS was, naturally, on. Then the power went out.

I turned all the PCs off so that any spikes when the power restored wouldn't blow anything and went back to sleep. This morning I fired everything up again and SHMBO's PC wouldn't boot. It got to the Windows XP blue running lights thing then rebooted itself in a loop.

Put in the PC restore disk from WHS, restored the system partition from the previous nights backup and all was well within 30 minutes. (Well, 12 hours and 30 minutes as I had to get home from work first.)

Anyway WHS has saved the day. WAF is high and all is well with the world.

Thank you Mr Gates.

Re: Saved By WHS

GlenR glad to hear it, nothing quite like a high WAF. (and a good news story of course)

Re: Saved By WHS

After several very happy months my WHS s%$t itself. All I did was go to add a disk that had previously been the system disk.

I had deleted the sys and data partitions, but not formatted the disk, before installing it into WHS.

I'm guessing there was something in the MBR that WHS didin't like as the current sys disk removed itself from the storage pool and lots of strange things started happening.

As per usual the system re-install option didn't work, so now I'm rebuilding after removing all the data drives and then go thru the painful process of rebuilding.

Great software and I miss it already, but that really sucked.
