System restore for WHS

Does anyone know how to do a Vista/XP style system restore for updates on WHS. I recently installed an update of a SP to .net framework 2 and it froze up mid way through. I reset the computer and all worked fine but it now won't install the update (it fails). I have tried removing the .net framework or repairing it in "add / remove software" but this fails as well.

I was hoping to be able to roll back to a previous setup but can't work out how I can do this.

Re: System restore for WHS

Your WHS software package should have come with a PC Restore CD. If not, there's a "Home PC Restore CD" created by default under your "Software" shares on your WHS - in there is an ISO you can burn a bootable CD of, and a .txt file for instructions.

Then simply boot the PC you want to restore a backup onto with the CD, and follow the prompts.

I've used this feature a few times now, mostly with success...

Re: System restore for WHS

I think he was asking if it's possible to do a "system restore" on the WHS box itself.

I had a snoop around about this 'cos it's a damn good question - sadly all I got was that it's a frequently requested feature for a future WHS build.

So it seems that a simple system restore isn't on at the moment, but if the .NET issue is serious for you - I'd suggest re-installing WHS from scratch using the "upgrade" option.

I did it recently taking mine from a late beta to the full version and I found the process to be very easy, and I do believe that WHS is very robust so you should be OK going that way.

Of course, if your have terabytes of data and lotsa plugins to lose - it's always gonna be a scary decision
