Can WHS burn DVDs?

Just thinking through my next project and it'll be really nice to have all of our photos backed up in one place, but to be extra safe, can I then use WHS to burn a DVD copy to take off-site?

I've done a little googling to see if I could find the answer but couldn't find confirmation and figured it'd be an easy answer for anyone using it.

I know that there'll be work arounds, but good to know beforehand so I know if I still need to centralise the photos on a media centre.

As WHS is based on SBS, which is based on Server 2003, It should burn a data DVD by drag & drop. I'll give it a try if you like.

You could maybe even set up a scheduled task to copy everything in a given directory to DVD regularly... Hmmmm

I did give it a go and WHS doesn't do DVD burning by drag and drop, not even from the actual desktop. It's a bit like XP I guess, doesn't natively recognise recordable DVDs. You will need some kind of burning program.

i'd/you'd have to check if WHS will do it...but it might be better/easier to use the built in backup feature of Windows to backup to a USB Thumbdrive or external HDD.

Would be able to store more pics and you wouldn't end up with heaps of DVDs if you do regular backups...
