Flaw in WHS

I'll start by saying that overall I am pretty happy with WHS and how it works.

However, there is a major flaw/inconsistency in its design.

Windows home server is clearly aimed at "home" use in the current generation Vista environment. Likewise Vista Home premium is also aimed at "home" use.

Why is it then that the remote access feature in WHS doesn't work with VHP? The only way to get remote access work is to run WHS with one of the Vista business editions. This begs the question why bother incorporating the remote access feature into WHS?

Re: Flaw in WHS

Since VHP does not include remote access, then WHS cannot access it remotely. Likewise XP Home cannot be accessed remotely - it does not include remote access.

I believe all WHS does when it finds a client machine is iinterrigate it for what software it is running, if it reports back VHP the WHS naturally assumes that remote access is not supported - even if you have the hack installed.

MCE2005, being based on XP Pro, does natively include remote access, so WHS can remote to it.
