2TB and loving it

Finally got around to finalising (for now) my WHS. I reshuffled a few disks from my VMC and other places to populate it and now have 2.01TB of storage.

All my PCs are backing up automatically and my other files are duplicated for security. I also have some files a friend needs access to and he can get to them via webfolders.

It all works very well. Couldn't be happier with it. If only all MS products were this well sorted.

Oh, and this is what the 2TB array looks like, just have to fill it now...

Awesome!

So, what kind of system is your WHS running on? Is it small & quiet? What was the cost like (excluding drives?).

Re: 2TB and loving it

Take a look at my WHS review over at au-Review. That's the system I got myself.

It's fairly quiet, but not dead silent. Silence isn't that important to me though, as the server sits out of the way in the garage and just hums away happily.

Re: 2TB and loving it

Great stuff Glen!

I've just reached the same conclusion that I really need to get into this backup stuff since this weekend when Noah (1 1/2 years old) handed me the remote control and plonked himself down on the sofa ready to watch Boo!

I'm sure it won't be long before he wants to use the control himself and I've still not had time to watch the final Californication episodes - you can guess where this is going.

So I guess the real question is - do you fancy coming over on the weekend to set up my home server

But seriously, thanks for the review and leaving me with no "it's too hard" excuses.

Cheers,

Tak

Re: 2TB and loving it

That indeed does look good. I only have 700gb but it is enough for now.

O.T. I have recently upgraded my main VMC rig so that it has interanl drives for my movie collection (2 of the external ones were playing up - ie crashing), and I thought that I would re-format them and use them on the server if needed (2 x 500Gb and 1 x 1Tb), but I think I will use the 500gb drives to back up the server - once Power Pack 1 is released. That is one of the more reasuring things I have heard about WHS in a long time. It has come in very handy on a couple of occasions, but being able to have the ability to back up the back-up and keep it off site is great news.
