Tried this at the time of the post and couldnt get it to work - so gave up.
I am installing oem version of whs today - already a nightmare. Will probably give the recorded tv method another go soon.
Interested to hear if others have success.
Coma.

Reason: typo
this should actually work for any NAS device right since it's just changing the recording location in registry.
I'll give it a try on my unRAID server.
Also, I dunno what size the recordings are per second/min/hour or whatever, but wonder how single or multiple streams would affect servers with raid setups, as write speed generally suffers.
I think you just have to make sure that the folder you are recording to isn't one that is duplicated.
Apparently there have been reports of data loss when either recording to, or downloading torrents to, a folder that is duplicated.
(In my best Ipswich chip shop voice) Please Explain? Duplicated how? Folder name? Content?
I've been trying to get my desktop PC's "recorded tv" folder to show on my VMC (using watched folders - tried MKLINK too) & all it seems to do is freak VMC out & it gives me messages about the programs being deleted due to lack of space. Both drives (local & desktop) have masses of free space & the total content of the two doesn't even come close to the amount of free space on the VMC.

Duplication is the system WHS uses to protect content. It's an option on WHS to protect the contents of the folder.
Basically it copies what is in one folder, to the same folder on a different drive. It's transparent so it only appears that there is one copy of the folder, when in actuality it takes up twice the space in your storage pool.
This is to ensure that if one drive fails there will be no data lost.
I don't think that they issue you are seeing is related, in fact I just set the same function up on Sunday with a VHP laptop looking at a Vista Ultimate PC's shared TV and everything was ok. I didn't give permission for the laptop to delete anything though, only read access.
