WHS "Media Sharing" vs shared folders

Do people typically use the WHS "Media Library Sharing" feature in WHS with VMC? Currently I am just mapping network drives and adding the drives in Media Center. Is there an advantage to doing it the other way?

I assume you don't need to set a user ID and password or worry about what user the HTPC is logged on as..?

Any disadvantages?

Also, by the looks of the settings page, you can only turn the pre-defined Music/Photo/Video shares on or off. I'm guessing it shares subfolders below those... Is there any way get finer control? (Exclude certain folders, or add folders in other shares etc?)

Re: WHS "Media Sharing" vs shared folders

If you will go over to wegotserved, there is an add-in for the WHS console that will let you add other folders for media.

Re: WHS "Media Sharing" vs shared folders

I don't use the media sharing as all the PCs I have accessing have an account on WHS. The guest acoount is disabled. That way I can add shares as I see fit.
