It looks like interest is increasing in getting Windows Home Server systems setup and working with VMC so I thought it might be good to publish a list of useful links I've found for WHS related sites:
Here's some sites you might find of interest on WHS - hope they help:
Adding a SATA controller. Thought I'd share my experience in adding a compatible SATA controller.
I am using a GA-MA69-S2H mobo for my WHS which has 4 SATA ports. Given the plug and play set-up for WHS I decided to use some old disks to expand my storage capacity. After some research I bought a 4 port Silicon Image 3114CTU based SATA PCI controller card from eBay for $15 (incl postage).
I wasn't getting my hopes up on ease of installation having previously spent days and weeks getting this sort of change to work with other systems, but I was pleasantly surprised.
1. Installed PCI card into spare spot.
2. Booted computer and allowed WHS to install driver from windows update.
3. Turned off computer and decided to test setup by plugging existing HDDs into new controller.
4. Booted computer and after a bit of activity WHS found all drives and continued on working.
Total time 10 minutes! Degree of difficulty - very simple.
This add-in is truly awesome for managing disks in your WHS. It provides full info on all your disks and has a graphical representation so that you can keep a record of where each drive is physically located in the server. Very useful with multiple identical drives.
I get temps on the disks attached to the Sil3114 controller but not the ones on the motherboard!
The following Member(s) said "Thank You!" to krypto for this information:
I want to highight that Steve Lindsay from Microsoft has done some good work on WHS and Media Centre integration
- do check out Steve's blog and take sometime to view the videos of his setup - he has an add-in coming out to handle auto transfer of files from the media centre to the WHS - that will be great

Re: Windows Home Server - Update on PP1 & Data Corruption Bug Fix
Good news
The Windows Home Server team have just released an update on the testing/beta programme for PP1 incl a public beta in May - which along with a long list of new features and support for 64bit clients includes the fix for the data corruption bug
Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 public beta RC4 released
The Windows Home Server team has announced today on their blog that a Release Candidate of Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 (Build 1771) is now available for public download and testing through Microsoft Connect!
There has been a huge amount of testing applied to Power Pack 1 already and they have high confidence that Power Pack 1 solves the data corruption bug that was first identified late last year (Knowledge Base article #946676).
They are running this public beta and hope to get thousands of beta testers to help them prove that they have fixed "the bug" and have significantly improved all parts of Windows Home Server with new features such as:
• Support for PCs running Windows Vista x64 editions
• Backup of home server Shared Folders
• Easier, enhanced remote access capabilities
• Better energy efficiency
• Improved performance
• Chinese and Japanese versions
They state they will not ship the final release of Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 until the community has validated their work. In the Release Documentation for Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 they outline a number of specific test scenarios.
So don't delay. Head on over to Microsoft Connect and sign-up (if you haven't already) and download and start testing Windows Home Server Power Pack 1. They've posted both an update package that can be applied to existing Windows Home Servers as well as updated DVD and CD ISO images of an evaluation version of Windows Home Server with Power Pack 1.
If you choose to run the Release Candidate on a "production" home server you should make a backup of everything prior to getting started.
Make sure you read the Release Documentation which is included in the download to see what's new and updated.
The Windows Home Server team has added a Power Pack 1 forum to the Windows Home Server Community forums. If you have questions about Power Pack 1 they have suggested that you go there to ask them. If you want to share your experiences with others in our community we also have a thread on the beta on Australian Media Center forums as well.
