WHS Remote Access

I have got my WHS working, however, I can't get remote access to work.

Under router configuration in WHS I get crosses for:
4. Verify that your router is accepting website connections
5. Verify that your router is accepting remote access connections

I have forwarded ports 80, 443 and 4125 in my router (7404VGO) and tried disabling all firewalls. I have also disabled port blocking with my ISP.

Doing an external stealth test I get that ports 80 and 443 are open, and port 4125 is closed. I suspect that port 4125 is the problem

Re: WHS Remote Access

Been having the same problem - in the end it was iinet blocking ports 80 and 443 that was my problem.

Since you've disabled "all" firewalls - I assume you mean the router and Windows, and disabled ISP port blocking - there can't be much left assuming you've forwarded the ports correctly.

Below are a few links you may have been to but helped me get it sorted in the end.

Greta site for all things to do with port forwarding etc.

A walk-through on setting up remote access:

this one describes your problem:

here's a workaround which shows you how to change the default WHS ports:

and a small tweak to the workaround (post 7)

I'd also suggest you setup WHS on a static IP if you plan to use remote access a lot - here's a good tutorial on that:

Good luck!

Re: WHS Remote Access

Thanks for the help Mike. Problems all sorted and I thought I'd share a couple of things to help future users.

1. Don't use Firefox for remote access, even using IE tab you lose functionality.
2. The full function of the system can only be tested by logging on from a remote location.
3. A useful microsoft guide for setting up and minor interface customizations is available here
4. Failure of the WHS automatic router setup routine doesn't mean that remote access isn't functioning. I assumed that because the test was failing that my server remote access wouldn't work. When I tried to access it remotely it worked.
5. Can't remote access Vista Home Premium (my HTPC) via WHS. I have installed the RDP patch and can remote access it outside of WHS, but WHS recognises that its Home Premium and barrs RDP.

Love the way WHS works, particularly the remote access to files. I get amazing speeds uploading and downloading files remotely.
