Reputation earned: 10 pointsWin7 can't playback after waking from sleep
Hi All,
This is my second issue in the last couple of days.
I've just installed a new motherboard and CPU in my Win7 media centre. The motherboard is an ASUS M4A785D-M Pro. It comes with Radeon 4200 integrated graphics which I am connecting via HDMI and I have installed the latest ATI drivers, 9.12.
When the computer wakes itself from standby to do a recording the system works perfectly. I can watch recordings and the system records everything I've programmed. Very reliable.
However when I wake the system from standby the system doesn't work. Initially I was getting a black screen with a small Win7 logo on the bottom right. I discovered that this was caused by MST Blanker. I tried uninstalling MST and I get the MCE screen but if I get all sorts of delays. For instance, if I press the recordings key I get the list of recordings but if I select a recording the machine pauses for 3 minutes. If I then try to play a recording it just hangs altogether, even the CAPS LOCK doesn't work.
I read about someone who had a problem a while back that sounded similar and they recommended closing MCE before going into standby. So I tried that to no avail.
My next thought was to look at the event viewer. Here I doscovered an interesting problem. When I select control panel from the start bar the window appears but it is 3 minutes before it fills out. So obviously something isn't starting correctly when coming out of standby. But what?
So I started changing services that appear in the event viewer after the 3 minute wait. None of this worked but these ar the things I tried:
: AMD External Events Utility: Disabled
- I don't plant to change screens while the system is on.
: Software Protection: Automatic (no delay)
: Windows Connect Now - Config Registrar
- I don't have WiFi in this machine. Not sure why it even bothered to start some time.
: Windows Error Reproting: Automatic (no delay)
: Windows Media Center TV Archive Transfer: Disbaled
- I don't store any recordings on my Home Server
I also used msconfig to disable all non-MS services just to see if they were the cause.
Even after all of this the system still takes 3 minutes to start the control panel.
I tried playing normal video files with Windows Media Player and they are OK. However I am not able to play dvr-ms or wtv files.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jason

Re: Win7 can't playback after waking from sleep
Not sure if I have the same problem or not, but I am seeing similar problems:
My setup, freshly built system:
MSI 785gm-e65 (Radeon hd 4200)
Windows 7 32-bit
Catalyst 9.12
Pinnacle 800e tuner (running default win7 drivers).
Using Windows Media Center
When I wakeup the computer from sleep, everything works except the system crashes usually when I try to play livetv. Occasionally it has also crashed playing recordings.
When the system boots fresh from a power down, I don't have any issues. Everything works fine.
At first I thought it was my usb tuner, but then I had a crash or two just trying to play a recorded video.
I've run memory tests for hours with no errors, so I don't really suspect any hardware problems.
I've tried installing newer Pinnacle drivers (the latest I can find is some labeled Windows 7 beta). It didn't seem to help.
I'm beginning to suspect the catalyst drivers, however I'm running the latest and I did run across this post saying that 9.11 has problems with standby:

(search for "standby").
Any suggestions other than don't use standby?
Much thanks,
George

Re: Win7 can't playback after waking from sleep
found the solution over here:
Live TV Broken after resume
I uninstalled Catalyst 9.12, installed 9.8, then reinstalled 9.12 (except for the
display driver), and I no longer have the problem.
I hope a future version of Catalyst fixes this!
