    Media Center Guide Listings

We’ve received several requests from the community to describe what is in the listings files that are download onto your machines running Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008 (and Windows 7). The attached document describes what is in the file.

Loading in your own listings is not a supported scenario. If you try to load in your own listings and things aren’t working, please don’t expect Microsoft support on this.

    Cheers

    Mike

    Thanks Mike,

Good documentation, thanks very much for your effort on this.

One quick question - how does the series element in the MXF interact with the series recording options. I'm presuming we need to get the series correctly organised in the MXF for the series record option to work correctly in MC.

    Thanks,

    David.

There presence of a seriesInfo controls whether we'll show series record option. (and groups the programs that are part of that series)

    Re: Media Center Guide Listings

How to use LoadMxf with Set Top Boxes?

    I've tried two methods:

    1. Set up Media Center for a country with no guide data.
    Run LoadMxf
This gives you an empty guide with 999 channels.
Clear All numbers then add back the numbers that you actually need.
Edit each channel to link it with the correct listing.
This works but you end up with a bunch of disabled channels.

    2. Set up Media Center for a country with small number of channels (Italy = 14).
    Run LoadMxf
Renumber the channels to some of your channel numbers.
    Add your remaining channel numbers.
Edit each channel to link it with the correct listing.
This works but the old listings are still there to cause some confusion when you edit listing.

Either way involves a lot of manual effort. Is there a better way of doing this?

Thumbs up Re: Media Center Guide Listings

    Hey Guys,

We've finally completed the second cut of our XMLTV to MXF compiler thanks to Mike's great documentation! The guides we've generated (screen below) seem to have been pretty stable over the past 2 days so fingers crossed that we've dotted the "i"s and crossed all the "t"s.

We'll have a compiler release for the public available pretty soon, but in the meantime you can check out our day-to-day progress on my blog.

    Thanks,

If you read around you'll find that loading your own EPG data into TV Pack will probably never be possible. Just go to Win7.

Any update on your wmcGuideCompiler7 project?

Once there's a working EPG, I might give W7 a go on my secondary partition..

I haven't seen any updates since your last one in mid-March on your blog..
