Vista TV Pack Released

See the following link for more info:

http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/06/e...-pack-aka-fij/

I have never been more disappointed with anything to do with Media Centre than this!

It offers nothing apart from cablecard support....

There was so much potential for there to be a couple of gaps to be filled such as native Blu-ray support. I know this is probably good for people who watch cable tv but I see no value for remaining 90% of us here in OZ.

my 3c

Re: Vista TV Pack Released

does heterogenous tuner support cover teh analog + DVBT mix ppl with paytv capture setups commonly used. Sure, there is much to be disappointed with Fiji, but that at least would be handy

Scott, if you want native BR support, buy a ps3

Re: Vista TV Pack Released

yeah a PS3 is good, but I don't care about games really and I prefer the MCE interface, not to mention the ability to have a larger HDD in the box, and that playTV is not release yet, and lack of plugins... Too many things that the PS3 is missing

Re: Vista TV Pack Released

link youre ps3 to your PC and storage isnt as much an issue. I dont think these bigger shortcomings are going to be tweaked until W7. The chops and changes that were made to Fiji attest to that.

Its OEM only so that means you need to buy it AND technically thats only with a new PC or qualifying hardware. However MS has muddied its OEM status is a little since it is allowing the "pirate" download link at the MS owned "The Green Button" forums to stand for about a week now. Who knows how hard they would come down on any other forum that posted the link to the "pirate" download of Fiji, but apparently they seem to be endorsing the pirate version available on their own forum by not taking down the link.

Some would say that it smells like MS are intentionally leaking Fiji in response to the backlash on their initial OEM stance so they can save face by blaming "someone else" for eventually having to make it a free download as a response to the "pirate" leak.

Re: Vista TV Pack Released

I fully agree with Extremepc With the official announcement yesterday that it will only be OEM, it is very confusing why the microsoft moderators over at TGB are still allowing a link to download the update, and even winking at people who asko about it
