Now I've removed the link pending clarification from Microsoft.
First, it's an illegal, non sanctioned download, and this site's rules forbid linking to such software. - and I don't care what TGB do or do not do, our rules have been in place for nearly 4 years and they must be applied equally and consistently. If MS want to screw around and make decisions on the fly about what's illegal one day and legal the next, that's up to them, but it won't happen here.
Secondly, a Moderator removed that link and his action must be respected, if there's a reason to have it re-established it should be done via PM or discussed in open forum, but to completely disregard his decision by re-posting what he removed is not the way it's done around here - especially when he was applying our code of conduct to the situation.
I have asked for clarification about this matter and will post back here once I know more, until then, the link will not be available here and anybody who wants it can follow the link to TGB and go from there.
But surely the code of conduct does not cover discussing, linking to, providing howto's for everything illegal or everything as spelled out in MS licensing?

Perhaps if you'd read our code of conduct you could have answered that question yourself.
As far as linking to illegal downloads is concerned, our position here has not changed since our code was first created back in November 2004, and it never will.
Quote:
You may not request, distribute, encourage, discuss, link to, or post in support of activities involving pirated software, cracks or product keys or the supply, exchange or distribution of any copyright material including TV recordings.
Now whilst we allow a low level, practically "arms length" mention of torrents, we've never allowed links to them or any other illegally obtained/provided software. So we can't now start to interpret this rule and make exceptions just because another website decides to break it's own rules, the very same rules which Microsoft have always actively policed - until now at TGB.
I just wrote to MS as follows:

I find it unacceptable that if I had made that download available here, I would have been told to remove the link and struck off the beta testing list in a heartbeat, and yet an MS employee at TGB winks and allows it to remain an active link despite the product still being under NDA with all beta testers.
I can't help it if others choose to be inconsistent, I certainly won't be, because my credibilty is far more important to me that it would seem Microsoft's is to some of it's employees.

Don't get me wrong. but I'd just like to point out that since the files that contain EPG information in the Windows OS are obsfucated and propriatary to MS AND the licensing agreement you must agree to strictly prohibits the end user from backwards enginering any part of the OS or MS propriatary code, then wouldn't it also break the Code of Conduct of this forum to discuss the ins and out, provide links to software, provide the software, provide howto's for things that specifically break the Windows license agreement, things like most of the third party EPG software. I mean if the rules in the code of conduct are to apply, then they should apply for all cases not just the unpopular ones, yes?

[sigh] - Please don't try and turn this into another pseudo-intellectual debate.
It really is much simpler than you'd have us believe. The reality here is that the software that could have been obtained by following the link (that was removed) has not yet been released.
Nobody knows if that file is the real deal, if not then the link has no place here. If it is the real deal, and has been leaked by a beta tester who is still under NDA, then it still has no place here because Microsoft have not yet released the update nor authorised its distribution.
Therefore, according to the section of our rules which governs this situation, that link cannot be allowed. Once the release is sanctioned by the owners of the software, I will happily provide links to the authorised download site.

The following Member(s) said "Thank You!" to Mike for this information:
I stuffed up and posted a link that was already deleted by a moderator. Whether or not the link was correct is not the issue, I broke forum rules and I admit that and will refrain from such in the future. Let's not turn this is into another ugly debate or people will start to think we are TGB, I think we are better than that here and I respect Mikes decision(i may not agree).
I am certainly interested in how it works for you guys in Australia (terrestrial) and New Zealand (satellite).
Mike, I'm using it with FreeviewNZ and like the improvements. I had to set the transponders for optus D1 manually as it only has the Oz and Sky ones. One problem/bug that I'm having with the DVB-S EIT guide data is that my scheduled recordings keep disappearing. Even when a recording is underway it can disappear and the recording stops. I thought it might be because I had done an upgrade install, so have since done a clean install but the problems still there. Looks like I'll have to roll back.
