I have trolled the forums trying to find a solution but haven't been able to find one .
The problem I am having is I can play all my divx and xvids fine in Media player but when I try to play them in VMC I got a codec error. I turned auto download codec off in MP11 and now they play in VMC with sound but no picture.
I have ffd show + haali matroska splitter and the Power DVD for BR playback.
I also have Media player classic to play .mkv as MP11 wont play them and I understand you can't play 1080p .mkv in VMC? Is this true?
I have tried uninstalling the ffd and reinstall but still the same problem.
You're using 32 bit WMP & 64 bit VMC - there's your problem. You need the 64 bit version of FFDShow installed & you need a 64 bit splitter (Haali doesn't come in 64 bit versions). You can still have the 32 bit versions installed for 32 bit apps.
You can watch 1080p mkv in VMC.

You probably need a more efficent AVC codec to get it stutter free, but I'm not sure there is one for 64 bit, certainly not a free one. PowerDVD maybe?

I have an AMD 4850e in the new Gigabyte Board with Crossfire 3400 Graphics and 4 gig of ram.
Like I said is fine in Media player classic CPU runs at approx 60%. I am thinking of changing to Vista 32bit, does it seem to be the better option for Media centres or can 64bit be just as good?

Thanks again.
Do you have cool'n'quiet enabled? If so, you might need to bump up the minimum power state for the CPU from 5% to something like 45% - I have a 4850e & need to do that. Control Panel>Power Options>Change Plan Settings>Change advanced power settings>Processor power management.
Vista 32 bit does have a lot more codec options - it's the pick ATM.
