Look harder at the "working" EPG - it's EIT over the air data & it's incomplete (no SBS beyond now & next) & not reliable. Head over to www.myepg.com.au for more info.

EPGStream should have a guide loader for other EPG sources before the end of the month.

And MS haven't released it yet - it's been leaked.

I noticed the same thing and wondered what was up?

http://msthings.spaces.live.com/blog...8C5F!227.entry

Check out the picture of my guide information though.

SBS coverage is patchy but there certainly appears to be current and next information for other channels.

At the moment this works fine for my needs anyway.

John,

I read your blog. If you had done any research prior to installing the update(that is not released) you would have known that it supports EPG in Australia over EIT. However with that said the quality of Australian EPG provided by the networks through EIT will not allow you to successfully record all your series as their information changes for programs every time it is loaded.

I do understand that Extreme, but it is getting very frustrating the amount of new people who seem to have located this unreleased product, then are getting on here sprouting to everyone how great it is without knowing the ramifications of loading it or even what it is intended to provide. Perhaps if people used the search function provided and read a few of the posts that talk about the TV pack, they may be a bit more cautious before putting it on their system. If you look at th op's blog he is telling everyone this thing is great and gives a fantastic EPG which is plainly incorrect.

To each his own, what you have failed to see is that the current EIT data may very be good enough for the majority of the TV watching public.

The EPG is a secondary issue here, TV Pack is an OEM only release that is unsupported by Microsoft and could potentialy have conflicts with different hardware setups. To simply sprout the virtues without pointing this fact out to potential users of this update in my opinion is dumb.

Is it though? You can freely download the OEM only release from a link supplied on a Microsoft owned website with Microsoft's knowledge, this has an obvious implication that Ms are condoning the FREE availability of the update .... for now at least.

Re: Just Installed "TV" update bonus, working EPG!

Which is a patently stupid thing for them to do.

What's going to happen when people screw something up and try to get support? MS support will say "Sorry, that software isn't supported on your system".

They're relying on the community to provide support. The very community they've screwed over by making it OEM only.

Actually, if you read the posts by Microsoft over at the site in question, they are not saying that they condone it but are powerless to stop it and they do not want to be seen to be censoring the site. They have also said that they are not supporting the update and that you need to go through your OEM provider for support.

Re: Just Installed "TV" update bonus, working EPG!

I have installed the update on my test rig and am happy with the final result. The update was not done on a clean install and no problems have been encountered.

As previously mentioned, it is interesting seeing an epg which appears to function OK. The epg is only as good as the stations provide and hopefully public pressure will ensure it becomes accurate enough for recording purposes.

Teletext is also working and is very responsive with quick page changes.

Do we know for sure that this update will only be available as OEM? Has there been an official notification yet?

There are downsides with the update of course, the new tv format is not yet supported by things like videoredo and mcebuddy, but this will change when the update is officially available.
