Is there a way to get a program to auto load [run] when resuming from s3 sleep? [vista 32]
TIA

I have done this before. Create a scheduled task which is triggered when it sees a message in the event log. I forget which message I used but look at your event viewer after a resume and you will see a few come up everytime.

Let us know how you go with this as I am looking to do the exact same thing.

I want to run devcon with the relevant parameters that rescans the hardware in device manager but only when the machine resmues from sleep. If I reboot the box normally I dont want it to run so am not wanting to put a standard script in the startup folder that would run every time.

Does anybody else know the best way (I am presuming a small VB script) to be able to only get this to run on resume from sleep?

Cheers

Re: Auto run program after resume from s3

Ok, got this figured out!
I used a system information event [resuming from sleep] as my trigger. Here's how -
1. Open task sheduler [press windows key, type task, click on task scheduler at the top of the menu list]
2. In Actions [menu or right pane] click 'new task'
3. In General tab, give your task a name
4. In Trigger tab, click 'new'
5. Choose 'on an event' in the top drop-down list.
6. Choose 'custom' radio button
7. Click on the 'new event filter' button that now appears.
8. For event level, choose 'information'
9. In 'event logs' drop-down menu, choose windows logs > system. Put a tick next to 'system' only
10. Click on the text 'All event ID's' [the text will clear] and insert 1
11. Click ok
12. In the 'Actions' tab, choose the program you want to start by clicking 'new'
13. In the 'new action' window, use the browse button to navigate to the .exe of the program you want to run. If you have a shortcut on your desktop for the program, you can simply choose that and scheduler will extract the path from the shortcut.
14. [optional] Add -fullscreen to the 'arguments' box if you want your program to start full screen and it supports this switch [argument]

ok your way back out of scheduler and try it!

Re: Auto run program after resume from s3

So now I'm trying to find a way to close my viewer when I press the sleep button.
I can create a batch file that runs taskkill, but can't get it to run soon enough before the enter sleep process commences.
Using the information 'entering s3 sleep' as a scheduled trigger is too late and the viewer is crashed on resumption from s3.
Anyone with any other ideas welcomed.

Have a look at http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/162083.aspx for an alternative run at resume option.

Hi, yeah seen that one thanks, but seems to be aimed at mce/vmc. I'm using terratec's 'cinema' viewer/player and looking for a way to close it @ sleep commence.

Re: Auto run program after resume from s3

And another alternative that I started using last night to run devcon on resume...

Hibernate Trigger, can run an exe, bat, vbs, etc on standby and resume.

I set it up last night to reset the SPDIF HD Audio on my Asus M3N78-VM on resume, works a treat. For the standby app, the tool can only pause the suspend for 20 seconds so any script etc must finish in that time.

BTW, does anybody know how to run devcon from a batch file without getting prompted with the UAC crap? (hopefully without turning it off which is what I did last night as a temporary fix)

Re: Auto run program after resume from s3

I saw that, or something similar. Devcon might be a very good option for those having tuner dropouts when waking from S3.

Re: Auto run program after resume from s3

Just an update. I found that occasionally my tuner app [terratec cinema] would be very slow and sluggish to respond to commands after auto resuming from s3 sleep.
I added a 10 second delay to the trigger properties to delay the starting of terratec and it's not missed a beat since
10 seconds is not available by default in the drop-down list of delay times, but if you type 10 seconds into the box, it will accept that.

As for closing terratec when entering sleep, I'm simply using alt-f4 to quit the app then press the sleep button - easy enough for now.
