Sudden, unexplained MS keyboard/ remote problem

My MS remote and keyboard have always worked flawlessly for me until yesterday. It's weird... the only functions on the remote that work relate to to tv functions- volume and tv off whereas the only keyboard functions are media centre related- arrow/ scroll keys, green button, etc...everything except volume and tv off!

And to make matters even more confusing, it seems that although I can't go into standby with the remote, it will come out of standby with the remote.

So far, I tried...
- new batteries
- setting remote back to default settings
- uninstalled IR receiver driver and reinstalled
- changed usb port for IR receiver

...nothing has worked.
I'm assuming it's a fault with the receiver as both the keyboard and remote aren't working properly but is there anything else to try????

Anyone experience this one before???

Re: Sudden, unexplained MS keyboard/ remote problem

Try uninstalling it in device manager (if you can - not sure). I've had mine go weird a few times over the last 2.5 years & forcing it to reninstall in one way or another has usually worked.

Re: Sudden, unexplained MS keyboard/ remote problem

Well I resolved the problem.
For the keyboard, I just re-programmed the vol control and tv on/off by teaching it off the tv remote as per the user manual. That was easy 'cause they were the only buttons not working.

The remote was different as all the media buttons wouldn't work. I tried everything including trying to reset to default by pressing 'DVD menu' + left arrow buttons but this did not register.

In the end, I found pressing 'DVD menu' + '1' worked (you can also use 2,3,4, etc). This fix is out there but it's not commonly referred to so that's why I mention it. So try it if you have a similar issue and resetting the remote doesn't work for you
