Dual Monitors with HDMI receiver

Hey all,
I have been looking everywhere for months now and i cannot seem to fix my problem:

I am running vista with a 19" vga monitor and a panasonic PT-AE700 projector which runs through a Yamaha RXV-1800 receiver 9 (via HDMI-DVI adapter). By graphics card is a radeon X800GTO

My problem is when I start the receiver, it alters my display settings (resolution, refresh rate etc) leaving me to go through and manually change the settings. Furthermore, when i start the projector, the same thing happens again.

it must have something to do with the monitor auto detect.

This has been bugging me as it is a big deal whenever i want to use media center.

Is there any way to fix the display settings in windows or by other means so that they dont change when i turn on/off the receiver/projector?

Thanks all!

Re: Dual Monitors with HDMI receiver

I had the same problem using a yamaha 2700 rx. HDMI switching performs a 'component update' on vista. (you can here the small beeps, like when you plug in a USB memory key), and screws up the screen setting.

Component outputs dont suffer the same problem, so can use that instead, or what I eventually did was run component for the small screen and HDMI for the large one (made windows run dual screen on an nvidia video card), and use the harmony remote to turn on everything correctly.

Re: Dual Monitors with HDMI receiver

Thanks bigbaron and yes, I did orignally use VGA component before i got the receiver. The contrast is hugely better now running HDMI so i dont want to go back to component.

Is there a way to stop windows auto detecting and screwing with the HDMI output?

It would be an OK compromise if i had to turn off the secondary monitor when i turn the receiver/projector and then turn it back on when i want to use it.

What really annoys me is windows detecting it and then i get 100% cpu usage, screen flashing and "windows has changed to vista basic" or something like that for 30+ settings everytime i turn someting on or off.

There must be some windows service that i can stop?

Thanks again everyone
