I love the 10' interface of VMC... but I increasingly find myself having to get a lot closer to use various media center functions.
It's annoying. A mouse/keyboard RF/bluetooth thingo for the couch would be highly WAF-negative. I want it all simple and remote-control friendly and within the VMC paradigm. Am I asking too much?
Specifically:
1) ABC's iView. Is there any way of integrating this into VMC? Even a quick and dirty one? It's essentially just a web page, after all... right?
2) TPG's IPTV. Same question. At the moment I can access this either via the TPG website (major pain in the bum - minimise VMC, launch IE, enter user name and password, use mouse to change channels) or via a playlist of video streams in VLC media player (still working out how to make this a less painful experience). Are there existing solutions that might get this inside the VMC menu, with or without a little dodgy hackery? Can VLC playlists be played from inside VMC?
3) .mkv video. Doesn't seem to play from VMC, so I have to minimise VMC, fire up VLC player. Am I doing something wrong here to do with codecs or something? Is it possible to play mkv vids inside VMC? Is there a plugin that incorporates the VLC player into VMC?

Can't help you with the first two, but MKVs play in VMC. It's just a matter of having Haali media splitter (assuming 32 bit - 64 uses a different splitter) installed & then enabling AVC in FFDShows video settings (or installing an alternative AVC/H.264 codec). Most MKVs have DD or DTS soundtracks, so they must be enabled in FFDSHow's audio settings (set to SPDIF if you're using a receiver).
VLC uses its own inbuilt codecs - that's why it is working, but VMC isn't.

Option 1 - I don't think ABC Will ever create a VMC plugin for this so someone else will need to do so.
Option 2 - If TPG were smart they'd create a Plugin so they could get more subscribers. Maybe if enough people suggest this to TPG they might do something about it!
