DVD audio issue.

Hi Guys,

I am having an unusual DVD audio issue. I have several codec packs installed (ffdshow, vista x64 codec pack and CCCodec Pack.) None of which have fixed the issue.

When I play a DVD in Vista MCE, I can hear the sound effects but no actual speech or primary audio. I only have background noise.

Anyone have any ideas or seen this problem before?

I am using logitech Z5500 speakers with the 3xrca jacks with onboard sound. Mobo is a Gigabyte EP45-DS3L

Audio worked fine on one of my older DVD's (Airborne) but just tried to watch a newer movie (Vantage Point) and only got sound effects. No speech. Quite odd....

Hey I had a slightly similar problem before...Because I had vistax64 as well..but I dont have any codec packs installed.

1st
I tried corel 9..then cyberlink..neither of them solved it.
then I downloaded a 64bit vista driver for my onboard soundcard..

then I fiddled around and configured the type of speaker I had.
coz I had separate speakers set up as 5.1 channel..

then played the dvd and worked fine..

Re: DVD audio issue.

If you are getting any audio at all, it is probably not codec related, more likely a speaker setup thing. Go into your realtek audio manager, or whatever it is called, and check your speaker setup. you should be able to do a test, to hear sound out of all speakers if it is set up properly.

Also, you probably have too many codecs installed and this can cause issues. I run just the vista codec pack, but many others use only ffdshow. I would suggest uninstalling them all, and reinstalling a single codec pack at the most.

Re: DVD audio issue.

Well this was a stupid issue on my own behalf

Had the amp on my Z5500's set to Dolby Movie, when I changed it to 6 Channel, worked a treat as Media Centre was configured to output 5.1 already!

So I guess it was kind of double emulating the sound or something on DVD, through the media centre and then out through the amp aswell, not really sure. But its fixed and was a stupid user issue haha.

Glad I'm not the only one that has had to enjoy some humble pie lately!! [mmmm.....humble pie...]
But seriously, there are so many options/settings/hook-up's on some equipment, it's hard to not get trapped by something silly occasionally.
Could make an interesting poll..."What's your most embarrassing clanger"
