Recently DivX files have started to pause intermediately. It’s like a frame hangs for a couple of seconds once every couple of minutes without the audio stopping. TV, DVDs and recorded TV don’t have this problem only DivX files.
I have uninstaller the June Cumulative Media Center updates and changed libavcodec for divx in ffdshow with no success.
DivX movies play correctly in Media Player without hanging so it seems to be a specific Media Center .
Could it be something to do with a registry edits for DivX in Media Center?
I had a similar issue when i freshly install vista extreme but once i install VLC player and avi codec pack that was recomended from the microsoft site (very supprised something they suggested actually worked) the issue was rectified. with these 2 installed i haven't found a format i can't play through VMC
Used
VistaCodec_v467.exe
Can't remember the exact site but if need i could e-mail.
I can't say for certain it will fix your problem but it did fix mine.
Good luck

I got the latests Vista Codec Package which is 4.7.2 and VLC Player tonight. Unfortunately they did not make any difference . DivX files still hang in WMC but not Media Player so I'm not sure what I've done or I can reload to over come the problem...very frustrating.
Again, thank you for your help and let me know if any other ideas come to mind.
Are you using 64-bit windows? If so, then make sure you have the 64-bit codec installed (probably best if you just install the Vista Codec pack, plus its 64-bit addon). Are you using an nvidia graphics card? If so, which Forceware version are you using? Because the previous driver generation had a bug which caused jerky playback of avi's in media center (but not in wmp), exactly as you are describing. Try updating to the latest driver version to see if that helps.
Basically, if you have issues in VMC but not in WMP, then it is probably down to one of 2 things:
a) the driver issue I described above, or,
b) you only have the appropriate codec installed in its 32-bit version, not the 64-bit version, which is fine for wmp (as there is a 32-bit version of it as well as 64), but doesn't help media center, as it can only make use of 64-bit versions of codecs (on 64-bit OS's).
