I only ever get 2 channel audio in TMT for both standard def DVD and Blu-ray.
Using Vista Media Center and My Movies, the standard def DVDs play in DD or DTS as selected. I want to use TMT for Blu-ray playback. I have tested TMT both within and independent of VMC.
I presume you are using the PowerDVD that came with the Pioneer drive, it is only 2 channel support, need to get a full version of PowerDVD. Just need a full copy of PowerDVD 7 or 8, and you don't need an upgrade for PlayMovie, it is the same.
Silly me. Yes, selecting S/PDIF instead of 5.1 works. Maybe if it said explictly "pass-through" I would have chosen that option. A bit confusing for a noob like me as I was using my HDMI connection.
