Changing default filename for recorded TV file

Hi, I would like to know how to tinker with the registry to change the default settings for filenames for recorded TV in Vista MC.
I previously found a great post on how to change the registry setting in order to get the episode name showing up in the outputed filename and all was well but after a hard drive disaster the knowledge is now lost with the new install.!

It is not in obvious hkey/localmachine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/mediacenter/service/recording

where I thought it was from memory

It is useful to have episode name in outputed file when shrinking/divxing a whole series.

Hi, answer found after long ... search. You need to create a new string called "filenaming" in the above registry folder ie the recording folder.

You then add the values: %T_%Et_%Dt

and this will give you title, episode title and date time in the file name produced.

Hope someone finds this useful as I have taken a lot from this forum but never clever enough to give some back !!

Keep up the good work guys.

Thanks
Russ

Re: Changing default filename for recorded TV file

Hi battleaxe55
Welcome to the Forum.
I gave it a go and these are the results I got. (Terrestrial tv)

Before Reg Change... It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia_7 HD Digital_03_08_2008_23_38_04
With reg Change....... It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia__03_08_2008_23_40_42

Question Do you have any more info on this?
Question Are you able to post a link to the post on How to change the registry setting?
Before reg change the station name shows.
After reg change day month year Time shows.

battleaxe
When you get your reg key set up in regedit. Click once on the reg key "filenaming" to highlight it.
Then go to the file Tab in regedit and select export. And save your reg entry in a safe place.
Next time you go to install the reg key entry just double click on the file and it will install in to the registry.
Interesting post thanks.

Re: Changing default filename for recorded TV file

Hi, I tried to track the link down last night. It was on the my movies forum but could not find it again unfortunatley and further googling did not provide any info. When I first started using it I was going to make a post about it to this forum as I thought it was quite useful.
I just had a bit more playing with it this am.

Without filenaming string added :
Strictly Dancing_ABC1_04_08_2008_05_49_43

With filenaming:
Strictly Dancing_Group B Heat 7_04_08_2008_05_47_50

So if it has an episode name in guide (I am using ice TV) then it will come up in the filename.
Regards Russ

Re: Changing default filename for recorded TV file

I did find an old thread here on how to do it for MCE 2005

How Can I Change dvr-ms filenames?
Chris,

In MCE05 using MCE Customizer you can change the name arrangment of the file.

or under the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording

add or edit the String Value - 'filenaming'

%Ch - Channel Number
%Cn - Station Name
%T - Title of show
%Et - Episode Title
%Dt - Date and Time

eg - %T_%Et_%Cn

Is that what you are after?

Later,

Nudge

Hope that was helpful
Russ

Thanks Russ for searching that out. I also found Nudge's thread last night.

That explains why I didn't get a result on my first try.
I build my own guide data. When I look through it. There is no episode data within it.
So it depends on the information the epg suppliers put within the guide data.
I think oztivo might put episode information into their data but I'm not sure.
eit data doesn’t.
I went into my guide data and manually put in the following sub title with the TV program Keeping Up Appearances. Aired today
<sub-title>Season 10, Episode 10</sub-title>
in xml format.
Then injected it into my guide.
Looks like this in the guide.

Then did a 10 second recording of the program.
With these settings in the Reg %T_%Et_%Dt
It picked up the episode number and came out like this.
Keeping Up Appearances_Season 10, Episode 10_04_08_2008_15_32_36
So, if the episode information is in the guide. It will pick it up.
If the information is not in the guide it will only show the name date and time.
I guess until we have a better supply of guide data in Australia. We face limited conditions on the way our media centers perform.
