Re: SP1 - Registry Keys Required To Prevent Guide Corruption
Im using Ice TV guide. (Vista 64bit SP1)
I have set the registry entry as per ice tv's site (and in fact im downloading the reg file file mentioned in one of the above posts and will apply it tonight and see how it goes)
Re: SP1 - Registry Keys Required To Prevent Guide Corruption
@slimf >>yep, whatever client you are using(ICE, freeEPG), if you are using MCE, those reg patches are essential.
My personal recommendation is you reboot/ run your EPG setup from scratch after deplying the regfixes. Best have your EPG sdf/xml all clean and shiny for the new parameters.

I have had Vista SP1 going with the registry hacks applied for a few weeks and the guide has screwed up a few times (5 maybe)
I get the guide country/location error.. Using the fix button in ICE and rebooting sometimes recovers it, but atm I have lost SBS from the guide and cant get it back.
There are still major issues with guide stability IMHO.
I recken MS needs to come out with a patch that just uses the TV station supplied guide data that comes down in the broadcast stream.. they seem to have this data several days ahead and it seems accurate enough to me.. and at least the integration should be stable!
I'm having the same problems. I have done a clean install, run all vista SP1 updates, run the registry tweaks, run the freeEPG setup, setup guide in vista and assignment channels, then turned on auto-updating. as soon as it tries to auto update, I says there is no EPG for my area (the standard vista error when you don't use an EPG provider).
Anyone had any luck with this? So tempted to ditch vista and rollback to MCE2005 because at least it works
This is very frustrating - why does MS make it so hard?
Re: SP1 - Registry Keys Required To Prevent Guide Corruption
Well, it works for most ppl, so there is nothing 'wrong' with the updates/reg patches. But, as with all software, there are occasions where something is wrong. Whether this is due to a peculiarity of your system, or something you are doing, it's not working properly for you, but it does for most ppl.
And it's not a matter of MS making it so hard. MS doesn't make a guide for Australia, because our networks won't allow them to do so. That's why we have providers such as Free*EPG. If we were able to use a proper MS guide, then this would likely not be an issue.
The next release of VMC will include support for EIT which will save you having to dl the guide. On the downside, you won't get episode names (except from nine), and sbs won't give u a guide at all (apart from now and next).
Re: SP1 - Registry Keys Required To Prevent Guide Corruption
Hi
Since my post that bmn quoted I have fixed my guide issues in Vista (x64).. Infact the guide has been going well for ages now.. better than it ever was in MCE2005. Im happy with it.
I would suggest going to the download section of this site and downloading the registry keys for the guide corruption fix and applying them to your system - this will ensure that the updates get done perfectly. Then reboot and setup your guide.
Since I done this I have not had a single guide issue - apart from occasionally the guide data getting low and VMC prompting me to update it (which it does perfectly)
Re: SP1 - Registry Keys Required To Prevent Guide Corruption
Ararat is correct. The networks are now starting to supply data through the broadcast stream, but it is flakey and often inacurate. If you want to make a difference head over to www.myepg.com.au which is a site set up to lobby the powers to be to mandate for changes to our guide in this country. Sign the petition, the more numbers the better. Then while you are there, look ate the proforma letters that have been written and send a few off to the polaticians in your area, as well as Freetv, and the ACMA. If enough people keep sending letters then they will take notice.

:-)
Do you turn automatic updates off? Maybe this is what the problem is.

Re: SP1 - Registry Keys Required To Prevent Guide Corruption
The three patches (KB935685 -Discovery Service Update Fix, KB938927 - Guide Corruption Fix and KB932649 - de-interlace problems) are all included in SP1 but they require two registry keys set to be effective. If you are running SP1 you MUST set these keys to have a stable guide.
If you have previously installed these hotfixes, the keys will have already been set and you won't need to set them again, but if you are installing Vista clean and use SP1, then these keys are essential.
Re: SP1 - Registry Keys Required To Prevent Guide Corruption
Hi Mike
I have Vista Ultimate 32 SP1 and other latest updates installed as well
Downloaded the reg file after applying the registery, in the morning reverting backing from sleep tried to start MCE it just kept showing me the hour glass and wont play TV or show anything in guide.
Restarted PC still the same.
Changed the registery values back to 0 (the last zero) restarted the PC
and its working now.
I wanted to know could there be a new microsoft update whihc has fixed the issue already.
Yet to find (after reverting back to original reg), IF guide dissapears or gets corrupt.
========================
Looks like the issue isnt fixed like I was thinking. Tried the reg file again a restarted the PC rescanned all the channels and went through setting up guide and assigning the channels to the guide. Looks okay now will wait for a few days to see if it works.
But Thanks for everyones effort on this cool website.
Thanks
