Yay i'm back! Asus bios upgrade blew my motherboard!

Some may remember I was having infinite troubles with VMC.

Since i last posted, I give up, and installing XPMC again. But, I was still having troubles, with startup, shutdown, running any apps, etc.

After several days of analysis, I finally determined the problem - My motherboard was playing up!

I'm pretty sure (from when things started getting real weird) that this happened when I did a BIOS upgrade.

As it turns out, a lot of the defaults settings on my original BIOS were different from the defaults on the new firmware. (GRRR ASUS!!!). Especially under the section that says "modifying these values can cause damage to your motherboard". I just naturally assumed all the "Defaults" were the same between BIOS versions!. Okay, perhaps silly me - but VERY BIG GRRR AT ASUS for lack of warning!

Anyway.... I have a new motherboard (identical), and all is now well.

Well - almost.

When running VMC, it frequently crashes when watching movies (havent got to TV setup yet), that says "Media Centre encountered a serious error" .... "determining if there is a solution to the problem" .... "re-starting Media Centre".

Any ideas anyone?

I'm running VMC under 64bit Premium Home. Using x64 Components as advised by AstroToy.
Have only installed the following :
- Latest Asus LAN drivers
- Latest Mouse drivers
- All Windows updates
- Latest Asus HD audio drivers
- .Net framework 1.1 + SP1 + Hotfix
- x64 components

Windows Event log shows :
------------------------------------
The description for Event ID 1000 from source Application Error cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

ehshell.exe
6.0.6000.16386
4549c25b
xvidcore.dll
0.0.0.0
44670e33
c0000005
0000000000083ea1

The substitution string for insert index (%1) could not be found
---------------------------------------

I'm guessing x64 Components is giving me issues?
This seems to happen 99% of the time at the video thumbnail view screen.
Do I have a dodgy video in my list (yikes, got around 3-400! will be hard to find!)
Or is it x64 Components?
Any alternatives?

Love to hear any ideas.....

Thanks guys,
Aaron.

The question is .... did your motherboard enjoy it.

hehe, yeh it loved it!

So anyone know why VMC is crashing in the video thumbnail screen?

All thumbnails are showing correctly. But after a few seconds, VMC crashes, and restarts.
