Re: Guide: DVD Library Setup in Vista

Great idea and well done Astrotoy7. There seems to be so many questions about the DVD library, this should be a great help to all those trying to get it going.

Re: Guide: DVD Library Setup in Vista

I've tried the whole thing: reg key edit (the DVD library option shows nicely in MCE) but after adding a folder to watch, scanning comes up empty - no movies added. I ripped 2 DVDs with DVD Decryptor 3.5.4 - they're both under my C:\DVDs folder with their video_ts folders, ifo/vob files and all...

I've tried the app that "monster" posted (movieme) and at least I saw it scanning the C:\DVDs folder and reporting to find a movie and generating xml metadata. However, still nothing shows up in MCE DVD library...

Tried removing Norton, HP advisor and other add-ons that came with my Vista but again, no luck. I have media PC: HP m8000n, AMD Athlon x2 dual core 5200+ 2.6GHz with 2GB Ram, 500G HD. This is my first experience with Vista. Anything else I can look at? These instructions look really straightforward, I don't know what could I be missing here...

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks
V

Re: Guide: DVD Library Setup in Vista

just to double check a couple of things: (sorry if they are a bit obvious)

1. Do the vob files play OK within windows media player ?

2. In MCE did you add the movies from specifically within the dvd library area. ie. right click/info >>add movies. It is *different* from the normal library setup area.

Thanks astro, here's an update...

1. Not at this point. Over the last few hours I've tried installing My Movies and it did fully see one of my 2 movies (KingKong, with all the metadata mymovies collected) and it was able to play it. My other movie, Shrek, did show up on the list but was unable to play it. I've tried reinstalling MyMovies and I lost KingKong altogether (it's not even listed) and Shrek is still there but unplayable. Right now I have MyMovies removed.

I have also tried ripping a movie into an ISO format and adding elby virtual clone drive - it would show in the DVD library but only one movie at the time (inconsistent as to which one it shows up). Now I have that SW removed as well.

Whether I was able to play the vobs before all this, I think yes but I'm honestly after trying all those things I'm not so sure...

2. yes

I really appreciate your help

V

Re: Guide: DVD Library Setup in Vista

Interesting... so executing an 'open with' and selecting WMP still doesnt play these files ??

Have you checked what is says under .vob in your registry ?? Do you have any other software dvd players installed eg. Nero, windvd ?? Or ffdshow ??

what a bugger ! Its probably one of the easiestthings to get going... sounds like some other proggie has fiddled and muddled things
