The next step is OPTIONAL: Dvd files will still play but just have a blank placeholder in the DVD Library rather than the cover art. If you want to add cover art and/or metadata - read on!
So I went off to the DVDxml.com site and signed up... great site, I must say.
I do have a question tho... I have some pretty rare/obscure movies. I cant find the metadata anywhere.. I have used the folder.jpg to add pics to the dvds in the list but how do I make my own DVD info (actors, years, reviews)
Great work on the guide. Two questions? EDIT: Ignore question found answer via google.
Has Vista lost the ability to play ripped DVDs directly through the 'video library'?.YES Is the DVD library the only way to view these or is there a hack to run them (standard feature in MCE05 'My Videos')? Not at present

Reason: Found answer I was not looking for.
Thanks for the initial guide, i now have the dvd library icon
im using a maxtor 320 gig external hard drive to store my rips on, when i add this no movies are found ( i had read somewhere else this had happend with external hard drives but they couldnt find a solution )
to check my rip was ok i copied and pasted it to drive c and it worked fine from library
so my question is- Is there any way to get library to play ts video files from an external hard drive
thanks

I had the same problem and it has to do with your user acount control settings, if you enable UAC it should work, elsewhere I read that installing your drive as a network drive should also do the trick.
Love the good work going on in this forum group.... So many helpful ideas and suggestions.
So i got the DVD library set up and working very well with the whole metadata, movieme etc etc happening and I'm wrapped.
However: Now I'm getting fussy, My niece and nephew come over regularly and love to watch a movie on the projector. So I'd like to create a second DVD Library and put the kids flicks in there so that there is a reduced chance of them accidentaly watching 'm' or 'r' rated films (or even worse)
Any ideas?
I've tried the My Movies program but it doesn't seem to give me a second library.

I'm guessing no one has any options or ideas? One suggestion was to add another user to the computer and restrict access to the dvd files.
I would prefer to set up a second dvd library than do that....
"Click “Add folder to watch” and navigate to the folder which contains the local DVD files. The best structure to have is a top-level root folder, and then subfolder for each DVD title. Put a tick next to the top-level folder, and then click Next."

Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the post, all working now from my shared external hdd on the mac

you can use apps like squirrel stash, but for a quick n nasty, just make all the folder(s) you dont wasnt shown "hidden" via R.click>properties I do that to hide vids from kids all the time.
If that doesnt rock your boat, check out squirrelstash. created a password protected virtual drive on your pc, for access via MCE
