There are three hotfixes released by Microsoft that are not readily available for Windows Update. While these are all well documented on this site, they may be hard to find and buried in often lengthy threads, so I thought I would consolidate them here.
The first two are the most important and deal with problems using the EPG in Australia. They are not available for download from Microsoft, so you must call them and request the specific hotfixes. I have uploaded them here to save you the bother. Each also requires a registry key added so I have included a .reg file for each to make installation that bit easier.
Discovery Service Update Fix KB935685 fixes a problem where the guide download fails due to VMC's update discovery service losing the path to update the guide data. This patch is in the file KB935685.zip. To install this run the .msu file and when finished double click on the .reg file to add the registry key you need to activate the patch. If you fail to add the registry key the patch will not function.
32 bit Version can be downloaded here.
64 bit version can be downloaded here.
Guide Corruption Fix KB938927 fixes the guide corruption error where channels (mainly 7 and SBS) vanish from the guide and/or put extra channels in the guide. This is due to a problem in Australia with opportunistic scanning. This patch is in the attached file KB938957.zip. To install this run the .msu file and when finished double click on the .reg file to add the registry key you need to activate the patch. If you fail to add the registry key the patch will not function.
32 bit Version can be downloaded here.
64 bit version can be downloaded here.
Both these patches are VITAL if you want a stable guide experience in Vista and should be added as part of any build.
Following installing these patches and adding the registry keys you should reboot your PC. This is especially important for KB938927. It is also recommended that if KB938927 is installed on an existing build that you do a channel rescan and delete/re-add you scheduled recordings.
If you are using Keep-Key or some other work-around for the Discovery Service Update Fix, these should be uninstalled first, and the MCUpdate task can be re-enabled once the hotfixes are applied.
NOTE: There are 32 bit versions and 64 bit versions of each of these patches. Make sure you use the one that matches the version of Vista you are using. The .reg files are the same for both and are included with each .zip file.
The third hotfix, KB932649, is not as critical, but may be worth adding anyway. It is to address de-interlace problems that some people see, and is available here - KB932649. Both the 32 & 64 bit versions are there.
