Re: Important Hotfixes For Vista Media Center

ok I have been running vista using free*EPG since RTM was released. I have never had the guide not updating, and never had the extra channels appearing in the guide problem.

well last week I got extra channel 7's. So went through and re set up the guide, then it happened again.
lol dam thats a long wait for teh first error.

so anyhow I am not sure that I need to get rid of keep key as it still seems to be doing the exact job it was installed for. is there likely to be an issue installing only the second hotfix ?

I spose I should really read around these fixes a bit more but seems like I shoudl only need one atm ( I like to try and keep my system as simple as possible )

Re: Important Hotfixes For Vista Media Center

Personally, I'd go with the MS patch and drop keep-key. Kepkey was a bit of a work-around and the patch is a validated part of Vista. I prefer to keep it simple too, hence my preference not to use work-arounds unless necessary.

Both these patches work and are stable.

Re: Important Hotfixes For Vista Media Center

I'm a bit of a noob but i have installed both of the patches and reg's and rebooted. Did i have to uninstall Pimp and if so, how? I have since set all the channels and listings and will see how it runs. Also did a search for keep-key and couldn't find it so hopefully i don't have to uninstall that. Thanks in advance.

You don't need keepkey any longer once those patches are correctly installed but I don't think it will necessarily hurt anything. Personally I would get rid of it purely from the perspective of keeping my system clean. Pimp does not need to be removed so that's not an issue. Good luck.

Re: Important Hotfixes For Vista Media Center

I am getting this for both patches, anyone got any ideas?

I have a 32bit system, I am located in Oz, have my regional setting set to Oz and I still get the "this update does not apply to you system" msg. I have also attempted to try it with my regionals set to United States as was suggested on the DL page comments.

I shouldn't need to reboot or log off/on should I?

That is the p[atch to disable Opportunistic Scanning as detailed in the base note of this thread.

The Error 21 Guide Download problem as reported by chelseamic should be resolved with this solution http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/209286.aspx
