Running Joost inside of Vista MCE

Hi all

I have been browsing through the Joost forums and it seems that someone has been beavering away and has Joost running from inside of MCE. Apologies if this has been covered before, (I had a quick search in the Vista sections on here and couldn't see anything), but if it hasn't here is how to get Joost running from within Vista MCE.

Quote:
How to Start and Stop Joost from MCE(works in Vista)
This is for Windows MCE and Windows Vista.
Joost must be installed on the C drive.

To start change Advance Settings in Joost. You must have these set the way I tell you.
Open Joost click My Joost --> Widget Menus --> Advance settings
Uncheck Leave in stanby(this will make Joost exit when exitting from MCE)
Leave Full Screen Checked(makes sure Joost will start in Full screen)
Check Leave always on top( Makes sure you see only Joost)
Close Joost.

Now to add the plugins to Start and Stop Joost.
Download the file from here. http://rapidshare.com/files/31373839..._for_Joost.zip
Extract all the files.

Now copy the MCE folder to
C:\Program Files\Joost\
You should see 7 files in C:\Program Files\Joost\MCE\

Copy the 2 shortcuts in the Shortcuts folder to

In MCE
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Media Center\Media Center Programs\

In Vista
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Media Center\Media Center Programs\

Now close out everything and launch MCE.
To start and stop Joost from MCE goto
In Windows MCE More Programs
In Windows Vista Online Media --> Program Library

Once you click Start Joost it will take a few seconds(if it shows an Internet error ignore) to close out MCE and to start Joost.
To close Joost you must start MCE again and click on Stop Joost.

If you set up everything correctly it should work just fine.

If you have Windows MCE tell me if this works for you.
I only tested this in Windows Vista.
Cheers

I havent actually been able to test as yet as I didnt get chance last night to do so. Hopefully tonight I may be able to and so I can see how well it works.

From what I gather it seems to work ok and will evolve as more people tweak and fiddle.

Re: Running Joost inside of Vista MCE

Did add as above and it works (Vista Home Premium).

Also on the remote (Dvico MCE Remote) these buttons work: mute volume (will bring out of mute also) Pause/play (has the one button) ok will bring up channel controls the use up/down for channel select left/right for programme select and then ok to play.

The back key does do something but not anything useful.

Re: Running Joost inside of Vista MCE

You need to change your view to show hidden files and folders and show system files and then the ProgramData folder will appear.

In explorer go organise, folder and search options, view tab and you will see the boxes to check/uncheck.

Smile Re: Running Joost inside of Vista MCE

I just got my invitation to download the Joost Beta which I promptly did, followed your precise instructions and am pleased to report that it runs AOK from within VMC and .......it's not too bad as something else to watch when there's nothing else on.

Thanks
