Vista RTM

Has anyone used this latest version. It will be interesting in the coming days whether it has any better stability or performance.

Obviously it isnt offically supported but being left with RC2 isnt very appealling. Morally you can get away with using it if you have already got one of these Upgrade Coupons to Vista or use the 30 day trial. There wont be any RC2 patches coming out on windows update so it's about time to move along.

With RTM we should start seeing better drivers come out for our hardware but it is likely these drivers will be built on RTM and so using with older revisions may be counter productive.

P.S. RTM is not the final release - there will be a lot of extra development from now until Jan 07. I cant help but feel disappointed with Vista's Media Center final product. Not a lot of improvements over MCE 2005. Waiting for Rollup 1 or SP1, whatever it is ;-)

Re: Vista RTM

RTM is final release. RTM means Release To Manufacturing which means disc duplication, manufacturers etc. What you see in the RTM build is what will be in retail. There may be some extra stuff on the discs but this is pretty much it. All that will change from here is actual manufacturer drivers but they won't be on the disc anyway.

Re: Vista RTM

^^ what he said. The RTM will be the same as retail, any new changes will simply be pushed through patches/windows update.

Re: Vista RTM

Interesting comments - I was under the same impression until I read otherwise on a ms vista blog.

Maybe I misinterpreted it. I just remember back to XP RTM and it was very different to the Retail CD I received.

e.g.
- Two drivers for my system were added after RTM (were no longer uninstalled after installation).
- A few system "issues" were fixed with Retail copy of XP.

It's hard to imagine Microsoft wouldnt send out the retail copy without some improvements, but maybe it was just the slip'ed patches that was the difference between RTM and retail.

I might down a copy via MSDN and then compare to the version I get retail. Or I could just say whatever, and get over it

Re: Vista RTM

I hear what you are saying and agree that the proof will be in the pudding. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

Re: Vista RTM

I have already another post stating some Vista Fact's but it is important people understand whats going on.

Firstly, nigel984 you are wrong simple as that. Vista Build 6000 (RTM) is FINAL. And will not be changed in anyway for the CD/DVD. Updates obviously will follow on Windows Update.

Refer for more info below:

Re: Vista RTM

Yes agreed as others have said RTM is RTM there can be no changes to this release unless the entire manufactured stock is destroyed and remanufactured. Any suggestion that this happened with XP IMHO is equally wrong. There were release candidates prior to RTM but once released to Manufacturing that is it...period!
