Sure. I have 2 environments - dev and production - dev is where I ensure things are working before I play with the production system and loose any WAF
The first part of my testing was to get dvrmstoolbox working (latest EA release), and downloading the 1.xGB ISO which contains the Vista Dev Kit. I extracted the relevant cab files to obtain the x64 version of the proppage.dll file and registered that manually. Once dvrmstoolbox was up and running, next part was getting VMC to play some of those AVI files.
On my dev box all I did was install ffdshow_rev2098_20080903 (x64 but I dont think this will make a diff) and then installed media control. I was not testing FF/RW at this point more so AVI files from various sources. I noticed that as a result my system wouldnt S3, but when it did - it would resume with some black edging ont he RHS, lower part of the screen - almost as if the VMC interface was not full screen & the top window. The task bar was also visible.
I backed out of both of those - by uninstalling both, and went to check dvrmstoolbox to ensure it was still working. The dvrmstoolbox now reported that proppage.dll was unregistered. I took note of this and worked out that the media control application installed / uninstalled proppage.dll - which is ok - I can copy that over again and re-register.
I did that, reinstalled just ffdshow and VMC played back the AVI's as expected. I paused / FF/RW the files without even thinking about it. When I saw this post I double checked to make sure.
I am guessing that proppage.dll is able to provide insight to the actual file to the various plugin's that are looking to see what is working / active. This is why the FF/RW could be working. I certainly do not have media control installed on my production box - and everything is working there just fine.
As for the ffdshow install - I just took the defaults - no special configuration or changes made during the installation itself.
