For all the members here one of the most important things in their Media Centre experience is a workable EPG.
We all need to rally and support this so look at DDH's social group and sign up to show your true support. If we don't we will have no-one to blame but ourselves when we end up being controlled by the TV stations
is it possible to do an e-mail broadcast to all members of the forum informing them of the developments on the EPG front and imploring them to rally as a community by joining this group.
From memory Mike has already set up a free banner ad which all members see when they first log in. I'm not sure such a mail drop wouldn't cause spam filters all over the place to get active!
I do mass e-mail campaigns every week at work and if you have the right software then all is good. Apart from that I would imagine the majority of members would accept incomming mail from this site.
There are some draft thoughts in the pan about mail outs from a couple of sources to try and motivate people to take action once we have some action ready to take. I am taking the view that the decision for any mail out would need to be considered by the controller of that information, be that here or elsewhere. I will say no more for the time being until I get to discuss the idea with those people.

Too many toys is still not enough.
I've discussed this with Mike once before interetingly enough relating to the same topic when I set up the petition that went about some time ago. That petition got 2500 respondents and I think as the petition organiser I am able to get a hold of the email addresses of those 2500 odd people. They were the ones passionate enough to speak out last time so it stands to reason that they still would be.
Those individuals came from a subset of Australian DVB users. We shouldn't expect to restrict this to MCE users only. The notifications of the petition at the time went out to dvbowners, oztivo, set top box forums, mediaportal, MCE and other related forums. We are not the only community which the EPG situation effects so we will need to consider getting at the wider community as well.
Back to the mailout it is possible and global mailing is done on rare occassions. We are conscious of the fact that we shouldn't use the site or it's member list to spam our users but I don't think when used sparingly that we shouldn't make use of the opportunity it provides.
We also have to remember that even though our userbase is large a number of that base are not local to Australia which dilutes it's effectiveness to a degree.
This is the hard part. Getting to enough people and organising it.
There are a slew of DTV related forums. They would be a good starting point.
I think we need to produce a lot of the work first though. One thing we have on our side, even though it's difficult to do this on-line, is that we all know each other here. Lets refine our approach here, do the documentation, letters etc, get a finalised target list then we can package it up and offer it to other interested groups.
I think with this approach we can involve a very large number of people, they'll be impressed with the work thats gone into it and jump onboard. Better then than trying to have the planning and brainstorming going on between multiple groups, each with differing opinions and requirements.
Maybe we can collect a list of those we'd like to include later on and that will do for the time being?
