Guide downloads twice ??

Hi,

I am trying to resolve the dreaded error 13 problem with the guide download and looking through the event viewer I noticed that the guide always tries to download twice....

Information 21/06/2008 12:20:58 AM ehSched 4 None
Error 21/06/2008 12:20:58 AM Media Center Guide 13 None
Information 21/06/2008 12:15:02 AM ehSched 4 None
Information 21/06/2008 12:15:02 AM Media Center Guide 0 None

This is from this morning - you can see the first guide download was OK.
The second attempt failed - my guess is that they were probably running at the same time.
The interesting thing is the first ehSched entry....

"The next scheduled download of the latest television listings guide (EPG) is 6/21/2008 0:9:35."

This is saying that the next guide download is scheduled for 12:09:35 am today ie In the past. The second one is OK..

"The next scheduled download of the latest television listings guide (EPG) is 6/22/2008 0:9:35"

It is scheduling tomorrow.

Could it be that the guide download is clobbering itself??

I have had the same - or similar pattern for the last few days. Usually one download works, one fails and always the same pattern of scheduling before the first download has completed. Sometimes both fail.

Coma.

Re: Guide downloads twice ??

*bump*

Anyone have any idea why the guide would be downloading twice (trying at least)?

I have rescheduled it to 2am to see if that cleaned it up - it now does the same thing then.

I am pretty sure this is the reason I get error 13 - the download is conflicting with another instance of itself.

Any ideas appreciated.

I really dont want to tackle a reinstall since I have the foxtel/FTA combo that is working well (apart from this annoyance)

Coma.

Re: Guide downloads twice ??

Have you installed the EPG guide fixes? they are sticked at the top of the Vista Software section.

If you have installed SP1 since you set it up, you need to put on a new set of EPG fixes for SP1.

Have you checked scheduled services for two different guide download tasks? it could have been duplicated some how.

Thanks.

Yes - I have applied the registry fixes. I have SP1.

I cant see the guidedownloads in scheduled tasks. I spent ages looking through all the entries. Looks like VMC kicks them off itself??

Re: Guide downloads twice ??

Try changing the Automatic Downloads Option to a manual setting.
See if it makes a difference.
Settings / General / Automatic Downloads Options / Manual / save
Just throwing in an idea.

No luck.

Disabled the auto download and left it a couple of days. Then re-enabled it and the double download is still happening.

Does anyone else see double entries in the event log?

Looks like I will have to try re-installing the guide.

Re: Guide downloads twice ??

i can also confirm that the freeEPG guide is downloaded twice. I've disabled mcupdate and administratively set the guide download time to 7:10PM each day. I've also got the guide registry entries to disable opportunistic scanning, and disableUpdateDiscSvc.

It seems the vista bits-client does the download twice, eg

My freeEPG downloads are successful, but they are being downloaded twice! or perhaps in 2 stages ?

Anyone know howto view bits-client scheduled tasks ?
