Guide Listings Not Available, please help!

Hi All,
I've been reading through previous posts and notes for a while now and still cannot find a solution to my problem. Hope someone can help.
So I am running WMC and have registered for free*EPG and have installed it successfully. I have installed the hotfixes (pre-SP1) as suggested by the install notes.
Everything seemed ok, except ABC1 wasn't showing any data. What I did next seemed to have totally stuffed things up. I went into WMC -> Tasks -> Settings -> TV -> Guide _> Edit Channels. I then proceeded to try and delete/add ABC1 (I read somewhere this might fix the data issue). After doing this I could not access the Guide anymore.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I have tried
1. Reinstall/Repair free*EPG
2. I tried Set up Guide Listings again and it says "Guide Listings Not Available" - TV Program Guide listings are not available for your country or region.

*EDIT* - In the process of trying to download the guide listings, I think it flashes some type of error relating to the download of the listings.

I checked my system time/date and it is accurate.

Can someone please help me trouble shoot this problem?

Hi rzkman

One of the most discussed topics in the forum is getting EPG setup to work.
The first problem may have come about by missing one step. Add listings to Channel.

To get your system running follow these steps.

1. Go to the FreeEPG site and download Free*EPG Setup 1.0
Download from here: epgstream.net

2. Download the file to your desktop.

3. Open MCE

4. Go to settings / TV / Set up TV signal

5. Go through all the set up screens until your prompted to type your post code.
Do not type your postcode yet....

6. At this point use your mouse to minimise MCE.

7. Double click on the FreeEpg setup file on your desktop. Make sure you are connected to the internet.

8. Go through the FreeEPG setup screens do a repair.

9. Exit the FreeEPG setup.

10. Maxamise MCE and type your post code. And hit OK.
The Vista MCE EPG set up should start downloading files allowing you to complete the setup.

try the above steps first and see how you go..

Thanks Bryce, I am back up and running again after following your steps.
I wonder what actually fixed it.
- installing/repairing free*EPG mid setup of the Guide
- or, setting up the Guide via "Setup TV Signal" rather than directly through Guide.

Anyway, its fixed and I am happy.

I have the same issue and have tried just an epg repair, as well as the fix above with exactly the same results. Straight after either method the guide works again, however the next download triggers the error again.
I didn't have this problem with a trial version of Vista Ultimate. It has just cropped up with Vista Home Premium.
Any ideas???

Anthtoy, are you sure you haven't forgotten the hotfixes? Or installed the hotfixes, but forgotten to apply the registry entries that enable the hotfixes? (And done that BEFORE fixing up your EPG).

Funny you should say that. I am on sp1 and after a search I just did the reg fix for sp1. I think it may have fixed it. I now have an error 34 but I think that is just because the guide is down, maybe updating?

Yeah, well, while SP1 has the hotfixes, you still need to apply the reg entries for them to become active.

The sticky is very clear on this point, so that should be it for your issues (just remember the patch at your next format).

That definitely seems to have fixed it. I just got fooled by the fact that Vista Ultimate doesn't seem to have this issue...

Trust me, Ultimate DOES have this issue. You ALWAYS need to apply the reg patch if you want to have a stable EPG.
