X64 Vista Ultimate - DiscoveryService keeps resetting to default MS one

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I recently installed an X64 based Windows Vista Ultimate (with SP1) and the usual hot fixes that stop the guide data settings from resetting no longer work.

Essentially every day the relevant DiscoveryService reg key is resetting to the default MS one meaning I don't get any guide data downloads working. What I have had to do is export the correct regkey and manually re apply it every day so the guide data begins to download again.

Is anyone else running an X64 based Vista install and are you having the same issues?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Same issue here. The hotfix is included with SP1 but you need to enter the reg key through (C:\Windows\SysWOW64\explorer.exe) to enable it. This doesn't work for me either as it still resets.

The only way around it for me so far has been to use IceTV's program and let it reset the discovery service everyday.

Thanks for the reply. I'll just have to keep manually importing the regkey for now until something more permenant presents itself.

Re: X64 Vista Ultimate - DiscoveryService keeps resetting to default MS one

Just wondering if anyone has found a fix for this as yet? It's driving me absolutely crazy having to fix the guide every single day. An added problem is that the channels seem to get mixed up occasionally i.e. I think I'm recording channel TEN and the guide shows that accordingly only for me to find something like SBS or ABC has recorded instead.

Re: X64 Vista Ultimate - DiscoveryService keeps resetting to default MS one

I'd try the following

Start button -> type regedit in the "start search" text box.
right click on the regedit that appears and choose "run as admin"

From within regedit I'd create the following reg key values.
(Note: ignore the space before the Windows in the below reg key names, I've had to add that in to stop this web site from splitting the long line)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\EPG

and create a DWORD value named
disableUpdateDiscSvc
and then set its value to 1

I would then create a reg key called

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\EPG

and create a DWORD value named
disableUpdateDiscSvc
and then set its value to 1

Not sure which one is required on 64 - but creating both should stop the discSvc key being clobbered. If its still getting changed, I'd go back with regedit and see if these reg keys you created are still present.

Cheers

Mike
