Guide updates fail after Foxtel integration

Hello,

I'd been using XP MCE with DTV and Foxtel together with IceTV as a guide for FTA stations only for around 18 months without any issues.

I decided to upgrade to Vista about two weeks ago when SP1 was made available and also took the opportunity to move to Free EPG. After a couple of weeks of letting the system bed in and just running with DTV and Free EPG I thought it was time merge Foxtel back into the equation. Using wixkidder's guide to merge the two succuessly I basked in the glorly of having finished a successful build, until the guide update the following morning...

It seems that when a guide update occurrs, it generates a new EPG (new .sdf and .xml files) and switches to these new guide files in the registry (currentepg value). It trashes all my Foxtel channels from the guide and displays no guide data for all the FTA channels that were originally scanned when I was running DTV alone. I can easily change it back by modifying the currentepg key to use my original .sdf file but when I tell the guide to update again it all reverts back.

I understand that the SP1 already includes the guide hotfixes and I have enabled them in the registry. I've also disabled the mceupdate Scheduled Task and made the pref.xml file read only, however, these have made no difference. Has anyone else seen this behaviour problem under Vista using Free EPG and DTV and Foxtel together.

Thanks.

Re: Guide updates fail after Foxtel integration

Update. I've tried this with IceTV instead of FreeEPG and its makes no difference. A guide update still trashes all the good work. I have an image of my system before SP1 went on so I my try and get DTV and Foxtel working together using that over the weekend.

Re: Guide updates fail after Foxtel integration

I havent updated to Sp1 yet but...
I recently went the whole hog with full Foxtel and FTA guide after about a year of running both FTA and Foxtel but only having the full guide for FTA.
At first it worked fine, but then like you, the next day I lost guide entries.
I then applied the hotfixes and havent had a problem since.
Decided to upgrade Foxtel to get more channels now that I have the guide available and loving it.
Coma.

Re: Guide updates fail after Foxtel integration

Hi Coma, good to hear you have FTA and Foxtel working OK. I have just tried the process again using an image of my machine before I applied SP1, however, the behaviour is still the same. I've also applied the Guide hotfixes. There must be some other software or setting on my PC that's making a guide update go and recreate the guide database after setting this process up. I may go back to the first image I created of the build and just see if it works with the vanilla Vista install only.

Re: Guide updates fail after Foxtel integration

Hello, I seemed to have fixed this problem. Sure enough the guide recreates itself from scratch the first time an update is executed after integrating DTV and Foxtel. However, instead of restoring an image and starting again I just had to setup the guide listings a 2nd time, Add Missing channels, perform a guide update and this time it sticks. Has so far for every other guide update this week. All good.

Re: Guide updates fail after Foxtel integration

yeah the instructions fail to mention to update the guide before adding the missing foxtel channels, other wise they get cleaned out on the first update.

p.s. a Quick way to add all the missing channels, is in the edit channels area, just select "all" channels and save.
you wont see all the missing channels in the edit area, but they do show up in the guide.
