I'm assuming you mean the panel that shows ABC1 or ABC2 at the top with the logo in the bottom part. Yes? If so I'd have to say I wouldn't have actually recognised that there was a new logo, only that there has been some channel identification added to the existing one.
Actually, on visiting the ABC website I find that the forums there are full of unhappy campers complaining about the new watermark. So that leads me to believe you are referring to the watermark, yes? In that case I guess I'll have to watch something on ABC before I get back to you.
They look like they're done by kids... nothing special.
The fact they are coloured (blue for ABC1 and orange for ABC2 IIRC) is a real PITA.... watermarks are horrible at the best of times but when they are coloured they do draw your eye.
I think they should've had an integrated logo - something like the sine wave (or whateveritis curve) with an "ABC" above or below that & the 1 or 2 right next to it. The colours & boxes are annoying &, far from being cutting edge, are very retro.
I also think that when the ABC1 part of the logo was leaked a few weeks back, it was actually going to be the full logo (with the curve being dumped), but the back-lash has lead to the oversized tech-drawing student mess that it is now.
BTW, logos not being in colour isn't any guarantee of it being less distracting - anyone who's seen the Global TV (canadian channel) logo will agree.

GIMP is the most hateful thing I have ever used.... seriously, they need to hire a UI designer. Apart from the painful UI, it is a great example of open source software.

Yeah, It gets a lot better with the Photoshop "Skin" that moves all the buttons and stuff around to look like PS.
BTW you guys might like to check out a a newish video of PlayTV in action.
Having recently tested a Beyonwiz (not quite a steaming pile, but highly unrecommended), I think that's the kind of market that should be worried about the PS3/PlayTV.
The PS3/PlayTV will be more fully featured, easier to use, more stable & probably cheaper. The only issue is that it will need a bigger hard drive.
