Well, apparently the FTA channels (C7 i'm lookin at you!) are supposed to be transmitting their EPG data in the EIT tables tonight, anyone heard any extra news about this yet?
I have been using EPGScan (awesome little program btw) to get my TenHD listings lately as I have written a little program that can merge the resulting XML files into 1 XMLTV file, and the data is great.
Cant wait to get all my data from there, its just a matter of whether it will happen...
Anyone heard any more on this? Anyone want to guess if/when it will go live?
Could make it a real New Years party if we can do away with downloading XMLTV files etc and just run one program that downloads our guide from the DVB stream! (been dreaming of that for years!)

Hmmm... Anything goes with the networks, but it would be good to see another source of guide data emerge! Though for the first couple of days/weeks it might not be that great quality!
Hey, do you have a sample XMLTV file generated so we can have a quick look at the quality?
Its pretty easy to figure out once you get your hands on the channel frequencies, and the data is very detailed about the episode. The one shortfall is that they dont broadcast the episode's name.
The hard bit is merging them together..
Incase it helps anyone, these are adelaides frequencies:
ABC 226500
SEVEN 177500
NINE 191625
TEN 219500
SBS 564500
I usually merge TENHD's broadcast guide into an ozTivo feed of the other channels, as the broadcast TEN HD guide is better at the moment.
My files look more or less like the one posted above...
And Surprise Surprise, channel 7 still only showing now/next program info... bah
will check other channels with TS Reader now and see if they have improved..
ABC/ABC2 - 4 days
Nine - 5 days
TEN/TEN HD - 7 days full and awesome
SBS - Now/Next Only
Seven - Now/Next Only
well, i guess the 'from the 1st' was prob more like 'we will get around to it sometime after the 1st' - i dont think i would be too worried about it on NYD either...
Keep us informed. It seems that a number of providers are waiting for the data to become "Public Domain" before they can go live with HD listings so I suspect it affects quite a few of us. Frankly if I could get a FreeEPG type solution that was supplemented by data from the EIT tables I reckon I'd chuck IceTV the minute my subscription expires.

Me too !
Can anyone explain how this effects vmc's guide ? I have mine setup to Ice at the moment - how can i change it over to these new guides ?
Thankfully i paid the "special" Ice subscription of $50 - for something that doesn't work properly right now so i dont care if i'm still subscribed - i just want something that works for all channels ...
Ok, well first thing: How does this effect Media Centers Guide?
It doesnt, at least not directly.
If and when they broadcast a decent EPG over the DVB transmission, then we could write a program that grabs that guide and puts it straight into the MCE/VMC guide after compiling the resulting XMLTV files to a single XMLTV.XML, and using Blade Runner to bring it into the guide or distribute it via server. If they transmit this data and there is no easy to use program to grab it and put it into the guide in media center, its pretty much useless (however i have something working already ;-)
Another advantage is that you wont need internet connected to the MCE machine as it grabs it through the antenna - depending on your setup that could kick ass...
Ok, next thing
Seven are now transmitting EPG Data - however - its only for today/tommorrow.
I officially think 7 suck (even moreso than before) - they need to get into the 21'st century and start helping us out otherwise we will just get their guide from elsewhere and hate them anyway!
SBS - What the hell are you doing? Now/Next - gee that helps - the weirdest thing with them is that they provide their 7 day listing in XMLTV.XML format ready to go off their website so whats the problem guys!?
TEN - You guys ROCK
Nine - Not as good as TEN but getting there with around 4-5 days data
ABC/ABC2 - Bout the same as Nine
Man, if this is the Aus channels idea of a 7 day EPG then we are screwed in this department ;-)
In fact I'm pretty sure I read over at DVBOwners or somewhere that a solution is in the works for extracting the data. Mind you, I don't think it's a big job given that most STB's and some PVR software have been doing it for years but the problem of course is quality. That's why what I'm saying is that if you were going to switch you would be best to look at something that takes a feed from OzTivo or similar and supplements it with the EIT data. That would be the best of both worlds I guess and as/if the quality of the feed improved so would the quality of the resultant EPG.
Does this mean, that VMC cannot just "do it" as it does with US tv i assume ?
I mean our hdtvs are just able to show epg, but your saying there will still be some fiddling necessary ?
Won't we be able to just go back in to scan and let MS' thing just do it ??
