Issues with recording from guide

I'm still having a problem where I can't get the red dot to show up on many shows in my guide when I hit the "record" button on the remote (or choose record/advanced record).

It seems random enough, some shows work fine, others just refuse to show a red dot unless I choose "record series", in which case multiple red dots show up.

I've had some messages lately from other forum members saying the same thing. I think it's only related to FreeEPG on Vista. Anyone solved this one as yet?

Re: Issues with recording from guide

I have the exact same problem,
If I hit record.... nothing, but if I open up and hit the record series button under the show in the guide, all works as per advertised....
Very frustrating.
was working fine, then decided to try OzTivo instead of FreeEPG.
Might be the culprit.

Nope, I occasionally get it and I'm using IceTV.

Re: Issues with recording from guide

Can only assume it's either:

1) Not happening to many people, otherwise we'd have a lot more activity on this thread, or

2) People have just learned to live with it?

Perhaps it's time for a poll? What i'm not seeing though is replies from forum members saying "Doesn't happen to me, and I use xxx guide listings"

Re: Issues with recording from guide

It occasionally happens to me, but only rarely.

One other weird thing that happens occasionally - is when setting up a recording from the guide on an HD channel, sometimes the red "record" dot will appear on the SD channel instead.

Same here although mine is opposite, when I try to record SD, sometimes the red dot appears on HD channel.

Re: Issues with recording from guide

I have posted elsewhere in this forum responding to this problem. I have tried to record HD and it records SD. Go back in guide cancel SD try again and notice red button not on HD but SD. This is the only issue I have with Vista to date. Regards, Gunner22 I use Free epg Oztivo guide for South Australia

I think it's happening to me too, i set up a record series for Rove, on 10, and noticed last night it was recording 12. I never bother recording shows like that in hd 'coz it adds no value yet takes up more disk, so i'm sure i set it up for 10.

When's MS going to include the guide giving the not-so-recent ruling that guide data was no longer protected in Aus?

Re: Issues with recording from guide

I have the same issue here also...

Guide: Free*Epg
Channel: 508 (ESPN - via Austar)
Program: UEFA Champions League 4:30am (pre DST) now 6:30am (Wed & Thurs)

If I select the program via the guide and select record then no red dot will appear beside the name. I can record the programs either side of this program and the red dot always shows. Although record series works and actually records the 6:30am one as well it's not really what I want to be doing...

The only way i have managed to get around this is to do a Manual recording on 508 at 6:30am to 9am - this works without any dramas.

I wonder if it has something to do with a Live Broadcast????

Regards
Daz

Re: Issues with recording from guide

I think that the HD <-> SD recording bug has something to do with the ID used in the EPG for the shows - perhaps the EPG has (incorrectly) got the same ID for both the SD & HD transmissions, and when setting up the recording - it just selects the first one it finds with that ID.

I have both issues. Sometimes the red dot will not appear, other times it appears on the SD channel instead of the HD channel.

Re: Issues with recording from guide

I have the first issue i.e. push record button during a show and usually nothing happens.

Although if I hold the button for 3-5 seconds this mostly (but not always) then triggers recording.

I have noticed this for the last 5-6 weeks.

Bob

Re: Issues with recording from guide

Me too. Using Free EPG with OzTivo.

At a guess 70% of the time I go to record from the guide, the red dot doesn't appear. About half of the time it doesn't work, it will allow me to record the equivalent SD or HD channel, or the dot appears on the other channel automatically. The other half of the time, I can't get to work at all and have to resort to a manual recording.

I always assumed this was the downside of using Free EPG, and I could always switch to ICE if it got too annoyinig. Hopefully this is the case, as sometimes I'm tempted to give ICE TV a go just for this issue. Other than that, Free EPG is great and the data is always accurate so I have just learned to live with it.

Re: Issues with recording from guide

Me three!

Using Free EPG with the standard stream (not OzTivo).

The way I've got around it is by clicking on "record series" - and then cancelling the series.

Seems to be a pretty common bug I think - The Free EPG site mentions it. Anyone done research on it? Does Microsoft know about it?
