Question about waking up to get the guide

I've been using BRP on MCE XP for ages. I loaded Vista onto one production MCE late last week and now use Fee*EPG with OZTvio, its all working very nicely.

My question comes about when scheduling guide downloads. Previosuly with BRP I just had a scheduled task under Windoze, easy. Now I need to set the time to download in the registry using a utility, really not too hard either. The real issue is I don't know if Vista is supposed to wake from S3 to download the guide at this time, or is it just opportunistic and downloads the next time its woken up (this is the behaviour I am experiencing). By having this behaviour the next guide is then scheduled for 24 hours after the last guide, not back to my preferred time, circa 0400.

This may have been the case in XP MCE too, its just I never had to do it this way. Can anyone let me know if Vista MCE should wake from S3 to get the guide at the scheduled time? Oh and of course, if it should, how do I make it do it!

Re: Question about waking up to get the guide

It doesn't wake, they disabled that feature in case VMCE was used on a laptop and it was in battery saving mode.

You could schedule a basic task to resume from sleep and Vista would download the guide then.

Thanks. This was my fallback plan, so I'll give that a go.

Thanks guys for the info - thought the problem I had was it was PC not waking to update guide.

As a related issue I have Vista and ICETV and since the 13th, ehsched service isn't updating the guide automatically when the machine is on. I set my download time to 1810 each day as the machine is typically on for the news.

I keep having to manually download guide data when the reminder pops up about having <3days data left.

Any ideas,

Later,

Nudge

edit: found the problem - in VMC settings the automatic downloads section had been set to manual and not automatic

Re: Question about waking up to get the guide

Nudge,

I know you fixed the problem but with IceTV you can use the IceTV Interactive program to set a scheduled download at the exact same time everyday.

When you open the program tick the checkbock that says (funnily enough) Download Guide and select what time you want it to download, the computer will need to be on at the time though as it doesn't have wake functionality IIRC.

Re: Question about waking up to get the guide

dgaust,

Thanks for the info, I don't use the vista interactive installer, just use the basic ICEGUIDE4MCE app. Saves loading an additional app in the system.

I use the guide time registry hack APP to set it to the specific time.

All working great now. Shame about the wake to update guide feature in Vista.

Later,

Nudge
