MCE BRP OzTVio moving to Vista FreeEPG - saving recordings.xml

I've always been a one guide kinda guy using BR 3 then BRP 3.5 and OzTVio as the source. I am just about to give Vista a try on one of my two production MCEs after testing out videos, and some other stuff on my laptop which I tend to test on, but has no tuner making full testing a bit hard.

One of the things I've decided is that BRP is really not the way forward and that I need to change, FreeEPG looks good for my needs. I would like to save my series setup (records.xml) across the conversion if possible. The key in my mind is the show naming. I'm a little confused about the data source for FreeEPG, and hence the naming of the shows. I seem to recall reading that you could choose your source in FreeEPG but can't see how in the doco (note I have not installed yet this is a preliminary question).

I know if I install FeeEPG and add series again I'll be fine, but being the lazy pedantic sod that I am, I'm keen to keep those old series setup so that I don't miss them when they turn up again.

Any thoughts that may help me?

Re: MCE BRP OzTVio moving to Vista FreeEPG - saving recordings.xml

Hi DDH, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by just how efficient and detailed Free-EPG with Oztivo is in VMC (depending of course on your location - if you are near a major capital city or on the East coast, then you will be covered). I notice you are near Adelaide like I am so you will have no problems. Follow these instructions http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...or-14-fix.html and you'll be up and running in no time and your EPG will not only update without ever having to touch it, it will be free! Given you previously used BRP and you are now going to use Vista, your series recordings will have to be reset. The best time to set recordings is usually on Friday nights when Oztivo is generally providing a full 7 days of up-coming guide data.

However, if you can locate your current recordings file (e.g. with Vista it is C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\ApplicationData\Microsoft\eHome\Recording\Re cordings.xml When you start redoing all your scheduled recordings VMC will put a new file in place.), copy it as a back up, then once you have started using the new VMC EPG set up, compare the new xml file with the old (open it with notepad) and you may be able to edit the new one by adding your old listings. I have not tested this procedure so you are flying by the seat of your pants. If I was doing it, I'd look at both and select a program that is in the old only but will come on TV over the next day or two... add it to the new xml file and then restart VMC to see if the red series dot(s) appears on the guide for that program! Of course, you would then need to wait and see if it recorded it.

Re: MCE BRP OzTVio moving to Vista FreeEPG - saving recordings.xml

Well I can say that bringing the XP MCE Recordings.xml file in place within Vista has picked up all series. The files are both version 1.0 so it looks like they should work too!

My only problem seems to be that I don't have a guide for SD ABC in Adelaide, only HD ABC. Hmm not sure how to fix that one yet.

Hi DDH!

The data for "ABC TV" (SD) should be available ... You may just have to manually associate the channel with the guide listing within VMC.

Thanks,

Yeah no worries with ABC SD Adelaide, clearky just a speed wobble with the first setup. I downloaded the guide again and it all came good. As expected only a couple of channels to associate being the SBSs.

Hey!

What are the SBS digital channel names you are seeing displayed by your tuner in Adelaide?

Thanks,

Now that I've associated them I can't tell anymore. I'll check some more, but I may need to rescan to find out.
