October 2007 - current state of Vista EPG?

It's been about 8 months since I was looking into EPG for XP MCE, now it's time to look again with Vista.

I heard things were changing with networks offering access to guide data now?

So where are things at? How hard is it in October 2007 to have a self updating EPG in Vista? Especially in a small town like Coffs Harbour?

Thanks guys.

ICETV & FREE*EPG are working fine in Vista. You need to install a couple of Microsoft patches so your guide provider registry entries don't keep getting overwritten though.

Only problem I have with those two is there is not much support for regional Australia. Great if you are in a major town/city though.

BladeRunner 3.0 and an xmltv source (such as JRobbo's) is pretty much the way to go if neither of the first two work.

There are plenty of threads in the Vista EPG section of this forum that detail how to get each of the above guides working and updating properly.

There is talk of the guide becoming freely available as a native solution after ICETV's win over Nine but nothing concrete yet.

Have a look at the Vista EPG section and let me know if you need more assistance....

I might as well jump in to say that IceTV has a native guide for Coffs Harbour.

Hey Vzey,

Just let us know what channels you need, your postcode and your tuner type (analogue or digital).

Thanks,

Re: October 2007 - current state of Vista EPG?

Hi,

Channel 7 doesn't seem to be getting any guide data for me at the moment. Any ideas what is going wrong? I use Free EPG.

Cheers,

M ax

Re: October 2007 - current state of Vista EPG?

Hi, follow these instructions http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...or-14-fix.html and you'll have a free EPG working and updating automatically in VMC without you ever having to worry. Mine has been working flawlessly for many many weeks now and I try to avoid posting instructions unless I'm 99% sure they have been tested enough taking into consideration many pitfalls and that they will work for others as easily as possible.

So I understand fully what you mean when you say that you have waited many months and it shouldn't be too hard. I too believe Microsoft should have jumped at the opportunity (that is, been proactive enough prior to and since the court ruling - let's face it, it was on the cards for more than a year that the outcome would be so - by at least integrating the current EPG providers anyway) to bring out an update for Australian users so that the EPG actually works like it should do in a seemless manner - but that's a whole new issue!
