This has been mentioned elsewhere but I wanted to provide these links and instructions in a clearer fashion for the benefit of AMCC users.
EDIT - I'd originally posted the hotfix download link and password from MS but I just noticed deX has already posted the extracted hotfix in the uploads section http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...do=file&id=152
This is a not yet released fix which usually requires you to call MS. There is NO verification process so I dont see why we cant put this up here ! (I told them my name was Tom Jones FFS.)
Please note - THE FOLLOWING FIXES ARE PROVIDED AS A SOLUTION BUT MAKE SURE YOU BACK STUFF UP if you need to
Free EPG Have posted info about Hotfix KB935685 - which apparently is designed to prevent your EPG Discovery Service from being over-ridden
The info and supplemental regfix is from FreeEPG...so HUGE KUDOS to them.
This fix also does not fix guide for everyone/entirely, just the one issue you mentioned Read Mike Haytons post in the Loosing Channels behemoth thread
lolz........the ever continuing mystery of Vista EPG.
I can say that follwing sports broadcasts from SBS and Seven, and the weekly guide refresh all in the last 24 hours - all usually situations quite hostile to my happy EPG - at the moment it has come unscathed. Far too early days to report on anything further.
I think a 2 week test period will be a sufficient comparison. I consistently got about 4-8 **** ups a week pre hotfix...lets see how this goes.
at least MS are recognising that there is something fishy going on
Mike hayton estimates a 3-5 week window before the big fix hotfix is released
nice, I guess this hotfix is just a part of that bigger one ?? which perhaps explains why it isnt up for grabs online for all to partake and rejoice in its bounty.
This fix only stops your machine calling home to MS for guide data - whether you want it or not. If your using an aussie guide, you want it to continue using the guide data. An unmodified MCE machine would still go looking for Microsoft though - hence why things like simuant / keepkey were invented - to monitor the key containing this address for home and changing it back to an aussie variety when required.
The bigger problem is not about the guide, but about background opportunistic scanning, where Vista thinks there are new channels and updates the channel lineup accordingly - of course its wrong, stuffs up and your guide gets screwed. This one is hopefully 5 weeks away from a fix?
Both problems and their differences, fixes are covered in a multitude of threads here, and several other people have had the impression they are the same problem, and fixed - Its just not true.... yet.

I was just trying ot gently point out that a 'Bigger' fix to a quite all encompassing issue this was not .
On a good news front for me. I diabled Mcupdate from the start, then uninstalled updates as suggested by freddyfinn. 7 days wihtout an issue but then all the 7's jumped into my guide. Though I would leave it and fix it on commercial, went ot guide and it had fixed itself
To answer the question of "is there a 64 bit version of this hox fix"? There is. See this post on how to get it.
As Impact says above, there are two issues:
This one fixes the problem where you lose your entire Guide (all channels, you probably get a message saying that a Guide is not supported in this country). Australian EPG providers (free*epg, iceTv) have worked around this problem. So you're likely to only encounter it if you're setting up your MCE. This fix does allow iceTv, free*epg to remove the workaround and provide a more reliable/official fix to this problem.
The second issue is the somewhat random loss of a few channels in the guide (typically 7, SBS). Microsoft is still working on a fix for this. A guestimate of the fix is 3-5 weeks (but only a guess). This issue is discussed in this monster thread
Cheers
Mike

All of which proves nothing.
There is mor than one problem to fix, and the fact that you (or anyone else) hasn't had any problem since doing anything proves exactly ziltch, nada, gooseegg, rien.
The reason why I say that is because after several weeks of having the same problems as everyone else, sometimes multiple times/day, I have not had a problem for over a week. If I had installed some fix/partial fix, I might be proclaiming that something had fixed my problem, but since I have installed nothing, all I can say is that I haven't had a problem, and by extension, that anyone who has installed anything doesn't know for certain that anything has been fixed.

Its been a few days since ive installed the fix on two machines.
Vista Rig1: MC update and simuant were disabled/uninstalled, respectively > the the fix
Vista Rig2: MC Update and simuant were never on, fix installed
Rig 1. I noticed once that what happened to simbot happened to me, seven appeared and disappeared.
Rig 2. no changes observed at the same time the other rig had the 'extra 7s'
nb. The disappearing/reappearing sevens was happening before the fix.
I havent had any 'unsupported country' error so I guess the fix is taking care of that... *sigh* who knows...ah well, at least its all still working, in a fashion
@ Mike Hayton - thanks for the heads up. You are a great asset in these parts ! We'll all march along bravely til that next fix comes.
@ Oz - maybe your EPG isnt playing up as it fears being harangued by your acerbic tongue
EDIT: Almost one week post - both rigs EPG Intact... I have noticed main rig(1) did the channel 7 houdini thing once more...thats about it
i downloaded the Hotfix and registery update but still no Guide
i have all channels working but when i try to reinstall the Free EPG i get the error msg
"Cannot download the application. The application is missing required fields. Contact application vendor for assistance"
