Unable to connect my htpc to my crt tv

I have just built a media centre pc. The video card I have is a Asus EN9500GT which im trying to connect to my crt tv via a dvi to rca (blue/purple/red) cable. when I plug it in though I get no picture. My tv is a jvc crt tv. I was thinking of getting a cheap vid card with tv out until I can afford a new lcd tv .What options do I have.

Re: Unable to connect my htpc to my crt tv

Up until yesterday I was using a WS CRT and had to use S-Video to get it to work properly.

Question Re: Unable to connect my htpc to my crt tv

Hi, I have a similar problem.
Trying to build a HTPC but I have a CTR TV and only SCART inputs. Currently using Composite (thru SCART ) for DVD and DTB.
All the current MoBo have VGA/DVI and HDMI but no s-video or composite so I am considering to use some converter cable, are they any good?
What option of Video card do I have?
Is there a current MoBo having Composite-Out?

Thanks

Re: Unable to connect my htpc to my crt tv

I had a look at your card and it doesn't have a HDTV port. it looks like a s-video port but with more pins. It's an analogue port that I found was the best way for me to connect to my Phillips crt (CRT are really not good at digital connections. You can still find cards that have this port at a very good price ($50). I found that the Gigabyte 2400 Ati worked very well for me. I connected through component to get 1080 i at 60 Hz

Re: Unable to connect my htpc to my crt tv

The funny (not)S-video on the card will have a custom plug that came with the card. It should have adaptors that convert it to S-video, component and (in my case), composite.

As my TV only has S & composite in, and the tuner/amp only does composite switching, I'm using composite for now.

When I can afford a TV/tuner with HDMI however... The day will come, the day will come...

I also have a CRT TV and could not get the Component output to work correctly - colours were out of sync. I ended up using S-video.
