Re: Need help choosing a vid card

Although your TV is 100Hz, the signal from the TV will still be 50Hz. In your case, 1080p50. No need for 100Hz output from the card.

If I was going to buy another card now (and I probably am), I would get a passively cooled 9600GT. Such a card will cost you something like $175, but looking at your system specs, I don't expect this price tag bothers you. It's got all the H.264/VC-1 GPU decode malarky, plus plenty of shader grunt for high quality deinterlacing of 1080i MPEG2. Of course, it's just one possibility out of many.

+1
I have Palit 9600GT Sonic, and childishly happy with PQ on 46" Bravia. After so many different video cards, I was not happy with, this one is here to stay.

Re: Need help choosing a vid card

I have just bought a ATI ASUS 4670 card and have had great difficulties setting it up. The picture quality is fantastic, but the setting up is diabolical compared to Nvidia 7900gt I had previously. The output keeps wanting to default to the HDMI output rather than the DVI which gives a clearer picture. I had to reduce the resolution to 1280x720 for a stable output, anything over would give a blank screen on the DVI.I suspect it has something to do with HDTV, EDID from the Sony TV, scaling and driver bugs. I seem to always have problms with ATI software.

I am not sure if that statement is possible...the clearer picture bit.

I am just noting what I saw. The HDMI desktop is slightly grainy compared to the desktop from the DVI output. The video picture from the tuner however is similar in appearance to both outputs. Mind you I probably haven't set it up properly, not having a complete understanding of how everything goes together (codecs, drivers, software, EDID, bios, etc ).

I read elsewhere in the forum that there is an issue with the HDMI from the GA MA78GM-S2H motherboard and Sony lcd TVs, and I guess I may have a similar issue with the HD 4670.

Anyway I have now purchased a HD 3450 video card which I intend to use with Vista crossfired with the IGP (for the very light gaming my kids do). This card is passive and does not have HDMI so it works fine with the Sony TV. I will use the HD 4670 in a MCE 2005 setup with Dell 24" monitor which should cope with any resolution the card should care to select. (Fingers crossed).
