DTS on DVDs is compressed, but generally it's not compressed anywhere near as much as DD.

For uncompressed sound, you need to go to Blu-ray or HD-DVD discs with Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD.

Re: DTS output through SPDIF with onboard Audio help!

OK - spoke too soon!!!

I only tested the DTS DVD with WMP11, not with Vista Media Center. (don't ask why, I don't know why myself - my only defence is that it was very late at night!)

When I tried the same DVD with VMC, I selected DTS from the DVD's language menu, played the movie and "bugger!!!" the amp shows DD, not DTS.

So - the new question - how do I get VMC to output DTS????

Re: DTS output through SPDIF with onboard Audio help!

*UPDATE*

Further to my previous post - I've worked it out.
It seems that ffdshow audio decoder was interferring with the ac3filter settings - so I just unchecked all options in ffdshow audio decoder properties. This gave me DTS in VMC.

Strange though that this affected VMC & not WMP11.
Oh well, it is Microsoft after all!!!!

Thanks to all that helped and showed me the way!
