Due to the size of this Thread, I have decided to update the first entry with all the relevant links and instructions for getting the best performance out of these cards. Of course, there's no complete guarantee all tweaks and fixes may work, all depends on hardware and codec combinations.
1. Download & install the latest Catalyst driver from ATI. http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html. (Be sure to completely remove older versions, and always include a reboot in the process)
2. Once you have installed drivers, run the registry tweaks for improved sharpness/colour corrections/hardware acceleration. http://home.comcast.net/~exdeus/ati-hd2x00/ (Thanks to Exdeus for this invaluable information)
3. Play live SDTV/HDTV and DVD to confirm you are getting great picture, and ffwd and rrwd ability.
5. You need to pick you codec of choice using DECCHECK first. Then select the same codec using VMCD. Word of warning: The avivo codec has functional issues. There is no fast forward or rewind on DVRMS files (record TV etc). It may also stop dvd playback in some systems, and crash media center. Despite repeated attempts by a multitude of Forum members to log tickets with ATI for this, there has been no progress from ATI to resolve it.
Please PM me if I missed anything or you have other supporting steps to get the best out of these cards.

I thought someone should start a thread for the 2400 series cards where we can get the lowdown on performance issues, and fixes.
I myself have been using the Sapphire 2400xt Passive for a few days now and even though it has fixed stuttering issues and other anomalies i was getting through svideo on my Nividia 6200tc, There are other things that need tweaking.
1)I found fast forward or rewind causes screen pixelation garbage. When it goes back to normal play speed it's fine.
2)Possible standby issues. Haven't determined this exactly yet.
3)I have read about Mpg2 hardware acceleration not turned on with 7.6 drivers. I haven't been able to prove this but have a tweaked driver set from AVS Forums i am going to try out. Something to do with a registry setting which was overlooked, or maybe deliberately turned off for NTSC.
Overall, I have seen a remarkable improvement in PQ and image clarity on MPG2 content. I don't have VC-1 content to test, but h.264 1080p runs fine on my Intel 2.8ghz CPU.
I am using the default MS codecs. Whats the word on the AVIVO codec?
Is cyberlink the prefered codec for these as it support Blueray and HDdvd out of the box?
Lots a questions.

I will try PowerDVD Ultra myself (build 2199 or something) and see if it fixes the green screen, and see what it does to my CPU usage aswell...i have a X2 3600EE, which works fine, but can go up to 50% usage sometimes...
I don't remember seeing the pixelation, then again, i had it running for ~30mins last night after i got Vista installed
Also, are u using HDMI? did your card come with it onboard HDMI? or a DVI to HDMI adaptor?
Mine talks about HDMI and 5.1Audio, but DOESN'T come with the DVI->HDMI adaptor...i have one on it, but it doesn't support the audio...or i don't have the drivers done right

I am trialling the powerdvd codecs with my 2400xt. Looks like the Cyberlink decoders support ATI's AVIVO.
To circumnavigate the Green Screen issue with HD content, I Tried Cyberlink codecs, but now instead of a green screen, I get a complete crash followed by looping audio grab.
Having absolutely no luck getting any HD content to work with this card so far.
