after persevering with the onboard x1250 for a while, i finally upgraded to a hd3450 in the hope it'd fix the jerky playback of hd channels. I was wrong. All sd channels are fine but as soon as i switch to hd the picture is jerky and looks to be dropping frames. task manager shows cpu usage as around 35% so i don't think thats the issue. could signal strength have something to do with it ?. All channels are around 40 % strength but 100% quality (except sbs which i lost about 2 wks ago and cant find now). Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: live tv questions

What are your CPU power settings like (look for some posts by me about cool'n'quiet)?

Re: live tv questions

i had it set to minimal power management and have now switched over to home/office desk. That doesn't seem to have made a difference. Should i be looking to see if cool n quiet is enabled in the bios?
Thanks for the help

Re: live tv questions

Hiya,

For the Q-Fan controller (though I suspect that is not your problem) try in the bios under power, if you have an ASUS M2A-VM-HDMI it is certainly under the power tab.

For power setup,
If it is Vista you are using go to control panel > power options and select high performance, that helped me with HD as the processor was limited to 50 percent. There is a way to change this in some 'advanced' power options thingy in control panel but I can't remember where it is and you'll have to hunt around

I've a board (the ASUS above) with a X1250 and have no problems with HD playback. It it is worth perhaps trying a non windows codec but others will know more about that than me,
I've had great sucess with the Vista codec pack, but that is mainly due ot ffdshow

hope this is of some use,

Cheers,
Gwil.

Re: live tv questions

i'm using mce2005, so the vista suggestions unfortunately arent going to help. i do have a copy of home premium but other than the hd issue mce2005 is working a treat so i dont really want to go changing os just yet. i did notice in your sig the only difference between your setup and mine is the ram. Yours is 800 mine is 667 maybe thats part of my problem, cos the x1250 was unwatchable on hd channels. At least with the 3450 its watchable albeit very annoying
thanks
